We're all...born...creamin"
St Vincent, the art rock/pop/synthwave/electronica project from virtuoso Annie Clark is back with a new album "All Born Screaming" - an album that, just by the looks of the cover and sound of the singles, promises to be her darkest album yet.
After 2021's 70's inspired "Daddy's Home," we're all looking forward to St. Vincent going back to more of a true-blue sound similar to "Strange Mercy" and the self titled, but is All Born Screaming the goth, industrial album that its been built up to be?
Not really. The first half is dark, brooding, and rockin' with some cool guitar riffs, but the back half not only falls a bit flat with songwriting but loses the cohesiveness. But, it's still pretty damn good.

“…one of the best living and active FEMALE guitarists out there…” If this is not a backhanded compliment then I don’t know what is 😒

Besides this little hiccup I actually highly enjoyed the commentary

@@iquitmyband Sorry. I should’ve added unintentional to my initial comment because I suspected it was. I subscribed and liked. Cheers 🤔

The comments about Daddy's Home are a bit weird, I mean, you DO realise it's a concept album right? I agree with most of your takes on All Born Screaming, although I think you need to listen to Violent Times a bit more - she has this thing of taking something familiar and then altering it a bit in a subversive or unsettling way with a melodic or tonal shift, and she really lets loose on the vocals as she rarely does.

i feel like one of the best parts of the record is the self production. It's not egocentric or self-centered, but rather well deserved.

Check Tape Note podcast where she explained the recording process, finding sounds, musicians involved. I'veen playing it in repeat. Amazing creative process from Annie Clark!

it's funny that i find myself agreeing the most with Nate because i also met her with the self-titled record but the difference is that i love "Violent Times" (and Daddy's Home); i'd give it a 9 because for me it has one skip: "Too Many Planets". i was expecting a more industrial sound overall -considering her covers of "Sad But True" and "Piggy"- so the second half of the album kinda breaks what the first half was cooking, but at least recovers with how the last song closes. can't wait to see her live and hear the rearrangement of her previous songs!

We saw her live in SF Saturday night and she put on an epic show. I posted a few shorts on my channel. She even brought back Krokodil, complete with crowd surfing, on this tour!

I'm a huge St. Vincent fan but, so far, not loving these songs, outside Broken Man and Big Time Nothing. 7.4/10

Please check out her with Beck and other artists covering the INXS Kick album. That's where I knew she was going to be the best! The full performance is on KZbin.
