165 Years. People from around the world knew about this institution. The magnitude of history is larger than life, all the lives that began and ended at this sacred place. St. Vincent's not only deserved to stay open, it certainly deserved a proper send off. There's change, and then there's changes like this, grieving that one never gets over. It's been 12 years and too many of us remain angry as hell. An absolute waste, all in the name of goddamn money and nothing of value in the name of humanity -- Here we are a decade gone by and Healthcare and Mental Healthcare are still NOT human rights in America. The least we could've done is carried on the St. Vincent Tradition by making healthcare human rights a reality. Literally billions in wealth in NYC and across the US, and we as a people let this institution shutter its doors. Infuriating. Those living in the exquisite condos that have risen on this sacred site will NEVER truly know the special history of St. Vincent Hospital, they will never know the emotions that were experienced on those grounds every day for 161 years. It's a perpetual shame.

I was born at St. Vincent's hospital Manhattan in 1955. I was sad to hear it closed because of financial reasons 😔

It was more than money. It was political and big business that closed a great hospital.

I remember when we rushed Cardinal O'connor to Saint Vincent Hospital after he collapsed.

Check out, "Why Are They Closing St. Vincent's Hospital? (pt. 1)", here on KZbin. I would have attached it as a video response, but it's already attached to another video. Thanks in advance for watching, and let's continue to get the word out.

I'm not and neither are countless others. This was an incredibly special institution. If you're glad they're closed, then you don't believe healthcare and mental healthcare are human rights.

@@solracsogrub4950 Not anymore than any other physician group and hospital -- Certainly not as it relates to a high-volume hospital in one of the world's biggest and most dynamic cities.
