@@gwendolinkirkegaard1812 Katz's was never cheap. Renewed popularity of a bygone era is something that shouldn't be "trendy" or "nostalgic"? If that is the case then why is "gentrification" bad? Or...we should be snobs to not associate with the hoi polloi? We certainly don't want "shabby", all that is gold does not glitter though... I suppose we need to move on from 2021's trend. Went today for the first time. Was definitely on the list of to do’s. Unfortunately not what I was expecting. Of course I had the classic pastrami. Believe it or not, there’s not much flavor, and the sandwich literally falls apart. They are better off selling bags of chips rather than french fries. The fries were obviously a day old and the worst I’ve ever had. By the way, you pay when you’re done eating and at the exit. It’s cash only, they probably have an atm and wack you for using it, just another way to make a buck off the customer. Once was fun, but they won’t get me again. Certainly not a 23.00 dollar sandwich.

As I Montrealer I have fundamental respect for the legendary NYC deli sandwiches (I had a great corned beef sandwich at Junior's in Brooklyn last February before the disaster hit). But with all due respect for the nice senior ladies, they have probably never tried real Montreal smoked meat that most aficionados agree are also world class. Insider tip: for anyone planning to visit Montreal when this mess is behind us...never go to Schwartz's which is the most famous but strictly for tourists. Locals always go to either Main Restaurant, Snowdon Deli or Smoked Meat Pete. And for the sake of civilization NEVER order the meat lean...

@? ,? , ownership took place with the death of Willy Katz, as his son Lenny took over. In 1980, both Lenny Katz and Harry Tarowsky died, leaving the store to Lenny's son-in-law Artie Makstein and Harry's son Izzy. In 1988, on the 100th anniversary of its establishment, with no offspring of their own to leave the business to, Lenny, Izzy and Arthur sold it to long-time restaurateur Martin Dell, his son Alan - who was a chef and a manager at a neighboring deli - and Martin's son-in-law Fred Austin. Alan’s son Jake joined the business in late 2009 and is in charge

30$ for a sandwich??? You can get two of the biggest sandwiches at Jersey Mike's for that. No thank you. Sandwiches are my favorite food in the whole world if I had to eat one thing forever it would definitely be sandwiches. $30 for a sandwich is an absolute kick to the shins. This guy knows what he's doing and it isn't trying to keep a family nostalgia vibe going. He's keeping a brand going. A niche, a trinket you can eat.

had the rueben there about a month ago. Honestly it was worth every penny. I havent had pastrami of that quality ever from any other restaurant. You gotta understand, if you order any pastrami sandwich or rueban from any other restaurant what you are getting is dry, refrigerated meat that you can just pick up from your local supermarket. Their pastrami is the freshest pastrami that you can ever have. Very few places in America make their own pastrami from scratch and you can tell when you eat at Katz, all other pastrami sandwiches fall to the wayside.

Herschel’s Deli in Philly’s Reading Terminal makes the same sandwich half the price. Same touristy type of place in center city.

$30 for a pastrami sandwich or $60 for a whole prime brisket and you can make 10+ lb of your own 🤷🏻‍♂️ Iconic spot though

Juan, their sandwiches are incredible. And they each weigh about 5lbs.

Lance Gearin they’re good, but each sandwich has 16oz of meat on it. They’re about 1.5 pounds.. not 5lb (they’d be losing money if it was over 2lb) that’s more per pound than Kobe beef ribeye caps... Making insanely delicious pastrami is not hard at all. I can buy USDA prime brisket, or American Black Wagyu brisket from snake river farms for $60 and make 12 sandwiches as big as the ones at Katz’s

I’m a truck driver and go many places. I ordered a pastrami on rye for a little over 6 bucks in Londonderry, NH from a pizza and sub shop and it was amazing. Anytime I go there I call those guys. Of course here, I’m sure it’s fantastic, but your paying for the experience, not just the sandwich. Place in NH was Giovanni’s.

I’ve had Giovanni’s, live in southern NH. Just went to Katz’s and the hype is real. Amazing sandwich and worth the cost entirely. My girlfriend and I split a pastrami on rye, a Motzo Ball soup, an egg cream and a hot dog and it was
