According to The Awl, St. Vincent's new record "St. Vincent" is a "spectacular thing."
St. Vincent aka Annie Clark sits down with Ann Powers of NPR Music for a SXSW Interview. With lyrical topics ranging from a creation myth to digital identity, the new record "St. Vincent" continues Clark's burst of activity which began with 2011's 'Strange Mercy' and the collaboration with David Byrne, 'Love This Giant.' Speaking of the musical approach this time around, she says, "I wanted to make a party record you could play at a funeral."

You know, I have been watching some of Annie's interviews over the past couple of weeks and I've noticed something very disturbing. I think she is a very good songwriter and has an amazing voice. Let's also remember she invented a guitar! But interviewers are often making comments about how untalented she is on the guitar, or on the drums, or how her voice isn't Aretha Franklin, REALLY?? Then in reading the comments, if someone isn't talking about how much she sucks, they're talking about how hot she is. I think it's a real shame that a beautiful woman has a stigma attached whereby that is all she is supposed to be. God forbid she is also multi-talented and completely original in the oversaturated crappy pop musical culture forced down our throats day after day! I'm not even really a fan, but I am a female songwriter, and I'm having a hard time understanding this negativity towards her talent. She's not one of these over the top, self indulged, addicted princesses of the pop world either. She seems quite down to earth and accessible. You know, it's a lot harder for a woman to make it in the music industry. I think it's important that we support truly original talent and uplift female artists. And if for some stupid reason you do not care for this artist, go somewhere else! Why waste your time looking at, and commenting on, somebody you don't like?? Doesn't make sense to me, maybe you just don't like women.

I don't understand how people think her voice is bad. Most dudes can get away with sounding like garbage cans, the minute a woman isn't perfect at singing or playing an istrument she gets burned at the stake

Good interview, it's refreshing to see an interviewer who makes research, listens and can create conversation and Annie is so interesting and fun, besides talented. Few artists can talk and make music in that way

It seems that the negative comments either are interested in nothing after Classical Jazz, or are threatened by a young female that has thoughts. "In ear monitors" at 13:57 points towards how she was brought up. Can she figure out Symphonic arrangements? I am sure not. Has she been around a high level of music for her whole life? Likely. Get used to it Geezers (like me). Every once in awhile a person comes around. Is she that? I do not know yet. But she is the most interesting thing I have seen in music since the Libertines.

I am sure that a very pronounced feature of serial snuff killers is being introverted. Much like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, K. Cobain, T. Yorke. Geoff Barrow, Kim Gordon, Del Rey Not Hers, hence introverted, P.J. Harvey UK, Omar R. Lopez, Keenan James Maynard.

It almost feels as though it's the interviewer who is being interviewed. Overall, I liked the interview because there's at least one interesting tidbit that I hadn't known before, which is "in medias res". I mean, I knew such a technique existed but wouldn't necessarily know what to call it.

The interviewer keeps asking way too many cerebral questions. She just writes her music the way she does because of who she is. Why keep hammering at "why do you write like this"?

'Neighbours In Waiting - We Are Naked Whilst We Stand Forever Famous - This Is The Magnifier' Her legs were these heavenly perceived afterthoughts Wherein sprinting dreams went to live and die right by the ladder of inescapable thirst A black mesh hem pencil-skirt and her looking-glass spectacles appeared to be rather eager too To converse and snidely collude... to miraculously collide A telescopic vision of panoramic portrayal and all of this in the sordidly set twist of a blessed pressed microphone She keeps a smiling face near the steer of her ears so that nobody knows that she is crazy A bejewelled master-puppeteer, my misleading mistress of lock-jawed whispers rather To wage a most kaleidoscopic war with tutelage words This misbehaving audience has been impatiently waiting Having paid their top dollar for lyrical design A colloquial thing of mouth-watering and seriously piquant understanding is she Every which way they walk and talk More and more of the very same male people cannot but attempt to manage to contend with and handle her realm of raptorial righteousness Cannot but indulge their libido-arisen senses Fret not, for this girl's musical tongue, whip-smart and incredibly real, shall set sail a thousand land-escaped ships again Thawed to within an envious albeit comparatively inviting inch of perfectly juxtaposed portraiture, painting an ethereal picture of hope on a rope - have to ask you though, just how long can the two endings of a string really be? She stands to hand and feels the searing heat of the restless and never-ending evening As we get to witness and watch her suddenly become someone so very special and significantly comfortable - a silent masterstroke carries with it these marvellously make-shifted meanderings of in-between meaning She's funky for fucksake Accommodating all of us and all of the time All of us and all at once Utterly accustomed to whichever lyrical shape and form she shall take for herself next - colourful expression means everything whenever the girl has turned herself agreeably invisible She's been cheating with reckless and inattentive time by way of creative attention to detail aside unbridled choreography, picking it up by its pieces and hanging it at the farthest reaches of the pulsating sky It is four o' clock in the morning again and that is where we get to meeting right at the farthest reaches of our nocturnal dreams And, so suddenly soon, she turns herself over in her fallen sleep Informs me that I am the crazy one I call myself Patrick and I call her Joy She's passionate from miles away, passionate with the things she says... and with a brain the size of the whole wide world she means no harm really It is aware of her existence and in a way that it usually isn't Or is she in fact a two dollar brain with fifty dollar words? Again, we have to ask her this one last thing before we bask in her scream of shrieking beauty
