This is how every video tutorial should be like ... no life history, no discussion or showing off about what else is in the garage, just a clear, concise and practical explanation of what needs to be done ...

This video helped me ALOT! I purchased my 2013 Yamaha Super Tenere used with 14000 mls on it. Within a year and about 20000 miles on it I noticed a vibration at ABOUT 3000 RPM. I took it to my local dealer and the service advisors said they could not notice any vibrations. One of the service writers even had the same model and year bike as mine and said he did not believe there was anything abnormal with my bike. Of course I knew this to be untrue and was about to sell the bike before something blew up! Then I found this video and bought all parts the same place you did using same part numbers you did (saving a lot of money from what dealer pricing was) and following you directions replaced everything. Now I still have the bike I love and will be setting off on a cross country trip across US with peace of mind. Also I will be bringing my old basket to the dealership to educate them on the situation so the next person who has this problem does not have to be looked at like they are either on drugs or need to be. And yes the springs on the basket were loose. I use your videos all the time and they are super helpful! THANK YOU!!

Excellent presentation - clear, concise expression and a clean and professional procedure, I feel like I can do this! Thanks for the guidance! The only tricky part for me is the very thin wire that goes in in the initial replacement process, I am not totally clear on that part but hopefully it will become obvious as I go along. Great video thanks. I had the gear shifter return spring broken, which is located behind the clutch basket.. so after downshifting a gear, the gear shifter would no longer return upward to its regular position.. I would have loved to replace it myself but because it was a warranty repair (the last week of its warranty), I had to let it replace by Yamaha dealer. As I'm now also doing the maintenance on my 2017 xt1200ZE with 55000km I love to see you showing clearly how you do it. Would love to see how you clean the injection system as that was a 40000 km task, and also the checking of the valve's play.. And another nice thing would be if you could insert a link in the description to special tools that you use like the universal clutch holder tool from Amazon Thanks a lot and Happy 2020

No the movment will eventually get worse and start to vibrate so that you can feel it and it will be annoying. I know only of one failure due to this problem but it was at high milage. @freedommachine Hi. Thanks for the video. Correct me if i am wrong, but as i see it, what they change was, they totally removed the damper springs and fix the hole basket together? i have a FZ6 and i had a R1, and on both bikes the clutch basket is the same with springs, and at least on the R1 i got the springs failed once so it rattled horrible, i changed the entire basket because of this, and i am starting to get a noise on the FZ6 that i cannot pin point so i am starting to think is the clutch basket too, so all these bikes have the same problem for years? What is the purpose of those springs anyway, i dont see what is the purpose on damping the connection between crankshaft and clutch. SO maybe, they realized this too and removed them? So in sumary Maybe is safe to say that as a permament fix, you can modify the clutch basket with screws so is fixed too? Thanks.

I think i am wrong. The springs are still there but just hidden right?
@Freedomachine
@Freedomachine 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Now instead of the springs there are rubber dampers and these are enclosed completely in the basket so you cannot see them. The damping effect is there to avoid a solid connection between the transmission and the engine. It reduces vibrations and it softens the clutch response during engagement.

Did the loose gear ring on the clutch basket cause drive-line slack? I get a thump through the drive line occasionally below 3k
@Freedomachine
@Freedomachine 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad. The clutch issue that I have fixed here is not causing any thump. It is literally just an annoying vibration caused by the primary gear being a bit loose in respect to the clutch basket. We are talking of about one mm of movement. Not enough to cause slack. Unfortunately I don't know what problem you are facing. Make sure the engine is not missing out. Get coils and sparks checked as these can get wet and misfires are common at low RPM.

@@Freedomachine Thank you. I have a 12 which seems to be plagued with all kinds of issues. Put iridium plugs in last year. I'm leaning towards the cam chain tensioner going bad.

On a crosstourer VFR1200X 98.000km should we check also the Clutch ??? There is No vibration or smh but just check up, or maybe not touching is better since is no problem?

If the bike is smooth at all rpm then there is no need to do anything. Also only some bikes are affected by this problem.

Freedomachine ok!!! The man who sold the bike 98.219km to my work colleague says he did just maintenance one time drive shaft recall by Honda and he changed tyres and lights (LED) and nothing else was done. And yes the price was 4.700€, that’s a lottery 50/50 after buying we started to looking for ,, stones under water’´ but the bike is really bomb proof. From the beginning we were looking for Yamaha but the expensive price moved us to Honda. Still not bad thx and stay safe

If you want something reliable it's either Yamaha or Honda and Japanese in general. So no surprise the bike is bomb proof. Enjoy your ride and don't worry l would say. Just keep an eye out for oil consumption as all old engines will consume a little.

I just priced this up, €852... bloody hell... haha, just the PRI DRVN GEAR costs more than this whole list... How long did it take you, I mean, real time? 1-2-3 hours? My local dealership charges €85/hour... I couldn't find any small garage here in Rotterdam. Thank you for the list regardless how much II cry seeing these prices.;)) But yes, definitely cheaper than getting a newer bike.;))

@@Freedomachine Thank you! That gives me hope... % wise, how do you feel, how much of the vibration is gone? It is killing me in he Netherlands, because the speed limit is 100kph, and that is just around 3000-3300rpm. If you still have the bike and without cruise control, look up the kaoko bar end cruise control products. It is not the most accurate thing in the world as it is based on friction and not electronical, but gives enough time to the hand to rest a bit. It serves as a weight as well.

I hated it before. The vibes were really annoying me. I was always trying to stay away from the 3000rpm. It is a problem that can be more or less bad depending on the milage that the bike has. If you cannot stand it then you will be very pleased by the result. I still have it and it is the best bike for me. I love it. Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out.

Amazing video man! Simple and effective! I was wondering if I should do this. That vibe is really annoying! I'm trying to stay out of 3000 rpm. Question: If I only get the new basket, will it still work? Does it really look like a new motorcycle model? I just rode a 2016 model and this bike is sweet. I'm a little worried about the final result! That thing is too expensive in Brazil! Thanks for sharing! Check out my ST1200 videos! m.kzbin.info

@@Freedomachine My Friend, the excellent video, but if you put the discs and parts in the used oil in an open container, during that time that oil received impurities and then you put the same oil in the engine, the minimum was to have placed new oil and filter , if that oil was already black, but the motorcycle is yours, and you know how to take care of it, the tutorial is appreciated from the rest
@Freedomachine
@Freedomachine 4 жыл бұрын
@@pedrodiazjohnson8629 the disks go inside the bike so even the new oil will get in contact with them. The container was placed somewhere safe and covered. Most people use new oil to put the disks inside to soak and then they put the same oil into the bike. There is no difference. Also the oil filter is there to catch the impurities if there are any. I'm working on a tight budget and replacing the oil after few 100km makes no sense to me.
