the belt is mounted in the opposite direction of the engine rotation starting from the crankshaft and the last time on the tensioning roller, this is simple and correct otherwise the timing goes wrong or you have to try several times until you put it correctly
@fredoz047 жыл бұрын
You should instal the belt anti clockwise from the crank, that means any loose belt is already at the tensioner.

I did mine last summer with the motor in the frame and no problems, takes about 3 to 4 hours start to finish. You def should get a new tensioner and guide bearing, that's the one you loop the belt round in the middle.

Thanks, the job is slightly more difficult in the frame and the belt cover can be awkward to remove. The manual says to remove the clutch cover first then remove the belt cover but it can be done without doing this. Jim.

Thanks for this - the manual is nice to have, but it's even nicer seeing it "in the flesh". I just did mine in place on the bike at 74,000 miles - only reason I did mine was because I was repairing the head from a stripped spark plug hole owing to a previous owner screwing it up. Still have your ST and is your still running well?

Hi, it can be done with the engine in the frame, it's just a little more difficult. I think Honda recommend changing the belt at 90k miles. When i took mine off it still looked nearly new, but as i had the engine out of the bike it was a good opportunity to change it. regards, Jim.
@eleuterioramalho68972 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion it is always better to perform the replacement with the engine off the bike, you have more control and more foresight in the execution. But the problem will be disconnecting many accessories, decoupling mechanical elements (drive shaft, ....) and lifting this engine, which shouldn't be easy.
@firejim511 жыл бұрын
Hi, I would change it if I were you for peace of mind, you never know when it may fail. It could happen tomorrow or it could last another 86000km you never can tell. Regards, Jim.

What about replacing the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley? They don't recommend it??? I know on my toyota sienna 3.0 the timing belt has to be changed @ 90K and you have to replace the tensioner and idler pulley along with the water pump. What a job that is. YIKES! This is very simple compared to that. Great video.

Also is this only an "engine out of the frame job" or can it be done on the bike.

Thanks for what you doing. But I have a question for you. I ve just bought an st1100 the second shift is hard to get in and sometimes I would hear this noise coming from the engine like a spoon falling on the concrete floor. Please what it is if you know
@firejim53 жыл бұрын
Hi, the problem you describe sounds like a gearbox issue. This is possibly a worn or broken selector fork inside the gearbox. It is difficult to say for sure without seeing the bike. Hope you get it sorted.

good video ... so i take it there are no locktools for this engine then ? to block the cams and crank while changing the belt ?
@firejim53 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments, there might be a locking tool I'm not sure. I found it pretty easy to do without one, just double checked the timing marks before spinning the engine.

Yep, it was way easier with the engine on the bench!! Honda only recommend changing the water pump with the timing belt but at around £300 i didn't bother, mine was still perfectly smooth when i spun it. regards, Jim.

firejim5 I have controled my Belt at 93.000km, it has some play. Just wanted to ask, when setting the tennsioner pulley, should I also past the 3 marks and then do a 46Nm on a tensioner, or a should just align thr marks, loosen the tensioner and then tighteen to 46Nm? You have explained how tondona new belt, but I was wondering what is the procedure with an old one. Thanks.
