Part 2 of my Top 30 best Sega Mega Drive or Genesis games. This video focuses on numbers 1 to 15. I also recommend you check out part 1. The video was created to celebrate the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis' 30th anniversary.
The list will focus on Mega Drive Exclusive games and even has a few Sega Genesis hidden gems thrown in. This list is of course based on my personal taste, but for me, these 30 games are in my opinion the best games that were ever released on the console.

This is such a refreshing Top 15 (or 30) Genesis list to see! A list with most of the ACTUAL best games on the platform, no nostalgia driven Altered Beast or western crap. Anyone who understands the 16-bit era knows that the best material came from Japan. The only games that are missing imo are at least one of Treasures classics like Alien Soldier, GunstarH, Yuu Hakasho, Dynamite Headdy. Fire Shark, Battle Mania 2 and Adventures of Batman are also awesome shooters, and Super Hang On is my favorite racer. But man you really did hit the vast majority of the best games, kickass job man!!

For sure man, too many games too little time! And exactly, that's why it's better to do a Top 30 as you did because Top 10s are wayyy too limiting and don't give a person a complete enough vision of a library.

Some other recommendations: Battle Mania 2, Ristar, Adventures of Batman and Robin, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Dynamite Headdy, Mega Turrican, Aladdin, ToeJam & Earl (both of them), Mickey Mania, Vectorman, Splatterhouse 2, Atomic Runner, Havoc and Phelios. Great list man, and i was pleasantly surprised seeing Twinkle Tale on your video, amazing game. Keep it up.

Can't believe you didn't mention the shining force 2 soundtrack! It's so good and nostalgic, takes me straight back to those childhood days when I played the game for the first time!! But anyway, this is an amazing top 30, probably the best i've seen around, with a lot of hidden gems ready to be discovered! :] :] Ps: Could you maybe add the list of games to the video info? I'm sure to came back here to pick up something to play ;)

Some very beautiful MD choices that really show off the platform, MW4 in particular, that's how you do MD graphics right. I disagree on Shadowrun, it's doing a lot visually all at once so the heavy dithering is forgivable if that's your issue but bugs are definitely an obstacle. Aw Musha I can live with one kidney lol, although repro quality is pretty decent these days. Alisia Dragoon was a welcome surprise for me when I found it early on as I started collecting again. Great selections man. :D

Ranger X is incredible looking! It honestly looks more like a 32 Bit title, like something you might see on the PS1. The animation quality is absolutely superb for a console with very limited video RAM.

Hay mucha calidad en esta selección aunque me ha sorprendido la ausencia de títulos como Gunstar Heroes o Alien Soldier. Shadowrun es un juego muy interesante, lástima que la música no esté a la altura, Landstalker es sin duda uno de mis juegos de acción/rpg favoritos de Mega Drive junto a Light Crusader, Wonder Boy in Monster World y Story of Thor. Solid list of games, wish I was able to enjoy Ranger-X. It looks awesome but the controls are hard to get used to, tried both 3 and 6 button controllers. My version of choice for Contra Hard Corps is Probotector. Growing up with the European games I have a soft spot for the robots.

I like RPGs, I like Sci-fi, I like fantasy, I like edgy stuff, you know I loved Shadowrun. Played the PC RPGs too, they ain't bad either, especially Dragonfall and Hong Kong. Still have to play the SNES game. But hell yeah Hard Corpse. I manage to beat the japanese version of that game as it's easier, the one hit death version is too brutal for me, but I only played the Euro version on the actual megadrive.

"Even if the level design seems more tailored towards Eric Lecarde" - I'd beg to disagree. It's just that the section you've shown while saying that was exclusive to Eric, whereas John got his own exclusive level section, based around swinging with his whip. I say, both characters are well-suited for the game. Sonic 3&K - aw yeah. While if we only talk separate games, I would say Sonic 2 is superior on the whole to either Sonic 3 or S&K, S3&K put together blows it away with a 2D Sonic experience that, to this day, remains unmatched. Contra Hard Corps - an unexpected choice for a #1, but I can dig it. The game is awesome, even if it is hard as balls.

It was confirmed that Shining universe and Landstalker universe are part of the same universe if I recall correctly. Maybe a different timeline? Or just different parts of the world? Sonic games are just legendary. They are still good in 2022. The music, the gameplay, this is peak gaming. All of them are top tier, 3 and Knuckle is just a Mega game, two games in one, the only time something so massive happened in gaming history was Ys 1 and 2 on the Pc Engine. Street of Rage 2 never gets old. Max and Axel are so much fun to play it is ridiculous, this beat em up has never been beaten. Everything is just too good. Shining Force 2 was very good and truly a unique game, much less linear then the first game. Hard Corps is the perfect Contra experience, 4 different kind of gameplay, tons of different endings and all with different scenario and end bosses. Seriously this one is an underrated gem. My only complain is that I am not a fan of killing bosses and bosses, I like killing random shmucks better then bosses all over the place.

What I learn. The "Run and Gun" term. From it I made a search, and finally found that arcade game which I remember as the best of the genera. Gun Force: Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island. Now I just need to "buy" it, and probably be disappointed.

If you're talking about the first in the series (of 2), you will probably be. It's from Irem, but sub-par. Episode 2 is a pre-Metal Slug, so much nicer.

See, I really hope Sega starts getting the respect they deserve one day & starts to catch up in terms of old school interest when compared to Nintendo. The system is just so damn good & there are just so many incredible games, many of which simply couldn't be done as well on the SNES due to its weaker & slower CPU. No special chips here, just pure X68000 power!

So am just curious.... How on earth is Contra Hard Corps on here @ #1 but Gunstar Heroes didn't even make the list? Contra Hard Corps is quite literally the game that Konami produced to compete with Gunstar Heroes which was made by ex Konami employees who left the company to start their own. Both games are so similar. I'm just surprised is all & wondering why Gunstar Heroes isn't on the list. It's an incredible game.

@@st1ka Lol alright, I guess you're entitled to your opinion. That seems like a strange complaint tho. I mean they don't really take that many hits. Maybe you're not using a good weapon combo? Try using two fires, that is the best weapon combo in the game. Super strong & super fun to use how you can rotate the beam of fire around. Is also very powerful. The weapon system is half the fun in the game, not to mention 100 other things that would take too long to mention lol. I think the game speaks for itself & I can't fathom someone loving Contra hard corps but not Gunstar Heroes. That is just... odd I must say. If it's too hard you can always put it on Easy mode. And I mean Contra is tough too so yeah, I really don't get it lol. Too many hits I dunno I just dont see how that alone can make a person not like it.

Ah the Probotector thing was due to a law in Germany against violence in gaming. I will say I do like Probotector's aesthethic though

@@st1ka I'll admit the aesthetics are pretty cool. Is it because Portugal being part of the EU that played a role in the censorship of some games back in 80's and 90's? Or did something else come into play entirely?

@@G.L.999 Oh, Portugal had zero political pull for something like that. The European censorship always stemmed from either the UK, Germany or France. Those are the ones that dictate censorship for everyone else basically.

I mean, I knew Germany had an influence on censorship in Europe, but I didn't realize that power was shared with France and the U.K. Then again, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by that given that the SECAM territories of the world(especially in most North African Nations) are ran through France(as well as Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan) And the U.K. having an even bigger world presence what with the British Commonwealth shared by their former colonies(with the exception of us). So it makes sense why censorship in gaming played a big role through the U.K. and France; not just Germany!

Oh, was the PAL version of Castlevania toned down? I know it was censored, but I was under the impression the level design was the same. In my case though, I actually imported a US copy

I heard that the enemy placements in the PAL versions have a less sporadic pattern and some of the enemies going down in one hit instead two to three depending the enemy you face(excluding the bosses and sub-bosses of course). Plus if I'm not mistaken, Eric Lecarde doesn't get impaled by his spear in the PAL version whenever he loses a life unlike in the U.S. and Japanese versions!

I just bought a near mint, japan Contra Hard Corps, spendt almost 350$ and am super happy to explore the game and enjoy getting totally addicted to it. And now you just have spoiled the Ending for me with throwing in the Inter-species Lesbian thing just out of nothing, with no Spoilerwarning in Advance. I like your Videos man ...but that now really was a totally unnecessary shit-move.
