After 10yrs ownership and 70k miles ( 160k total) my 2005 estate has just been written off after a heavy rear end shunt from a Land Rover. A sad ending to a very happy ownership experience. Self serviced every 10k, it has been extremely reliable. Apart from new plugs and leads, the engine has never been touched and it still revved out cleanly and powerfully to its red line. What else went wrong? Hardly anything, I had a front spring break at 150k and an intermittent 'evaporative emissions' warning that would come and go; I never could trace that one so I suspect it wss a dodgy electrical connection somewhere. Oil leaks? Yes the occassional drip from somewhere mid height on the engine. The only other issue I had was that the oil cooler feed is a thin pressed metal housing that sits between the engine block and the oil filter. The oil filter tightens down onto the metal housing and I found that the Mann filters I was using have a rubber seal which is slightly smaller diameter than the Ford filter. The thin oil cooler housing didn't like that and bent when the filter was tightened leading to a significant oil leak when the engine was started. Geting the oil cooler housing back into shape was a real hassle, and of course I always used genuine OEM filters after that. I have driven faster cars, I have driven more luxurious cars, I have driven sportier cars but I have never driven a car with such a great combination of practicality, comfort, reliability but which remains so engaging to drive and fun to rev out and listen to that wonderful sounding V6. RIP ST220, you will be missed!

I hear so many people say these things about the st220 and hear many regrets about no longer owning one! I think you need to get another one 👍

Absolutely, great cars, for the money especially. There's nothing else I would want in this price range 👍

Sounds like prudent work, you're being a great custodian for a great motor💜✌️😊 Lovely work on the rear subframe etc, immaculate 👍😊 Two beautiful cars at that - they are great value. I'd prefer one over a BMW. I wish I still had the health to do the spanner work - I'd love a ST220, always wanted one, wish I hadn't dithered in years past (couldn't have afforded a new one). Seems to only just fit in your garage🤔😲🤭👍💜

Yeh it's a tight fit but just doable, lol. I'd rather struggle a bit than send it into a garage, get charged handsomely for sometimes a crap job. Besides I do enjoy working on it and getting things as good as I can. Thanks for the comment and hope you enjoy the channel. Any recommendations with regards to improvements please feel free to say 👍

@@mondeost220restorations9 I hear you and I agree. Hopefully I've found a garage that I trust now (my trusted guy retired over 12 years ago now and we worked on several cars together). I've enjoyed the channel thus far, so no worries on that front, keep on keeping on👍😊✌️

Indeed mondeo st220s are good cars im going to be giving my 2006 black one a full body respray I want to make it look brand new again because mondeo st220s are going to be coming very rare soon
@mondeost220restorations92 жыл бұрын
I urge you to check for rot underneath before spending money on a respray if you haven't already. I hear quite often people spending lots of money on the cosmetics of the car only to realise it's rotten underneath or major mechanical issues, thus mot failure making it financially non viable

Uber reliable if looked after. I've had mine since 2004 (car is 2003). Will never part with it. Great video. These cars need saving.
@mondeost220restorations9 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I totally agree about saving them as I think there's quite a few that won't last much longer due to corrosion. Awesome drivers car though 👌

I had one for 2 months before it got run off the road by someone running a red light in the rain. Had a faulty synchro and boot latch but it was the most brilliant car I’ve driven. I’ll always miss it

just wanted to ask with the crankshaft shells what causes them to spin is it lack of oil pressure of is it inevitable?
@mondeost220restorations94 ай бұрын
Yes lack of oil pressure, but there can be several reasons for low oil pressure like low oil level due to leaks which is what is common with the ST220
