Glad to find you as was recommended to watch as i have run my amparo blue ST24 for 20 years as the family car / weekend warrior. Have garaged it since 2006 and bought at 2.5 years old with 17k miles, now has 106k and has been good economical motoring all these years. Gives 32 to the gallon and not afraid to run it hard on any long distance trips. 500 mile round trip to Devon is always a highlight. Its not perfect but has been the only car to reliably run the course of my imperfect driving. Though the tappets rattle a little at 2,500 rpm now it still has lots of comoression and will holds its own on the motorway. Great video of great cars, Fords are unbreakable! Thanks for listening Steve

Thanks for the comment Steve and for finding my Channel, it's great to know you enjoyed this video and I hope you watch a few of the others. Well done for keeping an ST24 for 20 years, you must have some lovely memories with it... it's now a member of the family! Thanks also for keeping an ST24 on the road as they are a real rarity now and a welcome sight at car shows. Thanks for watching, I hope to hear from you on other / future videos.

Fantastic video Andy. My daily run around for the family is an S-max Titanium X. Same setup and engine as the Mondeo and although its one of the more fun people carriers to drive it still does not have the same feel as a Fast Ford. Very economical and the most reliable car I've ever had though.

Had a mk1 2.5 v6 myself, ex unmarked police car, certainly felt quicker than the quoted time. Fords always make slight changes on there sporty versions, even the diesels, i Currently have a mk5 2.0 tdci 180bhp with the titanium x pack. Found out only last week that as it has the 19" wheels option, it also has the rare sports suspension fitted from factory which means its slightly lowered springs and uprated shocks, as well as uprated brakes. Ive owned the car 3 years.

Hi Andy a great video as ever and hope you are keeping well Although I’ve never had a mondeo myself I have driven a few and agree they are lovely driving cars and so much fun much like many of the other fords of that time (love the focuses they are brilliant driving cars aren’t they) Two which stand out for me both of which I have driven are the ST24 and the Titanium X 2.5 (the Volvo engine) both were fantastic driving cars and in my view the titanium was a wolf in sheep’s clothing it could blooming shift The ST24 was an old fashioned sporting saloon and looked the part! Thanks for a great video all the best Daniel
@cornishcarcollectors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment as always Daniel, great to know you liked the video. Your "stand out" Mondeos are both excellent cars, with the 2.5T Titanium X being a real road sleeper. I also agree the Mk2 ST24 and ST200 retain the 'old skool' sporting saloon look, with the Mk3 a leap forward to a much more modern look thanks to Ford's 'New Edge' design brief. Thanks for watching... look forward to hearing from you on the next.

Nice video! ST220 and ST200 for me, though never been in a mk1. I'm not sure on the 0-60 figure you have for the ST220, it can do it in under 7 seconds but I think Ford's quoted figures were all over the place for some reason. I'd be interested to know which ones you think will be valued the most in the future. Keep up the good work!

@@cornishcarcollectors Have to say I agree re: the ST200, I think the fact Ford had the mk2 in the British Touring Car Championship is what ultimately does it. Hi Andy In the 3rd generation there was the ST300 . Though I can't actually see what the difference was between that and the ST220 . I used to own a Mk2 v6 Ghia auto it was a fast car. In fact the most annoying thing about it wanted to go all the time, slightest touch of the throttle it was off ! . Completely different contrast to my focus st225 this has far more torque but you have to completely foot down and on boost for it to go .

Hello Andy Firstly another brilliant video i really enjoyed it and if im honest il have to agree yet disagree ... Ok yes i agree the Mk1 V6 24v was the first and set the standard that really gave the like of the Jags Beamers and Mercs a run for there money and that engine was a dream. Sadly so many went on to company car route and sinply used abused thrashed to high miles destruction but in all honesty a brilliant car. But disagree on it the best as that for me is the ST200 .. ok a bit biased has i had one for 6 months and wow what a car (apart from the fuel consumption if you had a heavy right foot) .. but what many people dont know is the ST200 boot model is a very limited production car of only 300 ever made and it so rare to see a mint example now. Well for me only Mondeo was the one i used to own M648 UJN a black Mk1 2.0si that was onw of the very few (only 7 done) by Power Engineering back in 1997 and it had the full Zetec Turbo conversion inc 5th injector. The conversion was £5700 and it produced 205 bhp and 250 ib torque . I won Ford fair concours 1998 99 00 and it was featured in the Fast Ford Mag and in the Ford Fair 1998 video which you can find it on you tube so take a look mate. As like Dave Power said (of Power Engineering) it was the Mondeo Ford should of made themselves but never did. Take care Andy catch up on the next video Nigel 😎

Thanks for the comment Nigel. It's great to hear from you and thanks for watching this video, I am glad you enjoyed it. The ST200 is probably my joint favourite; I too loved owning mine and would have it back in a heartbeat. As for the turbo'd Mondeo Si... wow! I've never seen one; must have been fantastic! As you say, Ford could have (and should have) made a Cosworth type equivalent Mondeo in the Mk1, particularly given the touring car prowess. Sounds to me you owned as close to a 'Mondeo Cosworth' as had ever been. 👍 Thanks again for watching, I appreciate the support.

A properly good looking car too. 😎 If you like your 6-cylinder Mondeos then be sure to stay tuned to my Channel as I’ve a new car coming soon that you might like. @cornishcarcollectors3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment - you are quite correct to call me out on the PowerShift not being fitted to the 2.3, it had the AISIN 6 speed auto which was more reliable than the PowerShift. I hope you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching. 👍

Thanks for the comment. The diesel Mondeos are indeed excellent cars - smooth, powerful and economical cruisers. I did not include them in this Hot Mondeo feature, but as I said in the video I like all Mondeos and it's a real shame Ford cancelled the model. Thank you for watching.

Find it confusing that the ST220 is moaned about for been too luxury but in the next breath the 2.5t is praised for been a luxury car...
@cornishcarcollectors9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I think it’s the ST badge on the ST220 that sets the ‘sporty, hot hatch’ expectation and it under slightly delivers. Don’t get me wrong, I think the ST220 are excellent cars… comfortable, smooth, powerful and effortless. The 2.5T is the Titanium X trim and isn’t claiming to be a hot hatch, so luxury is more in keeping with the badge. I think all Mondeos are great, I just tried to rank them for the purpose of the video. Thanks for watching.

@@cornishcarcollectors I don't share quite the same love for the Mondeo as you do... I think that they're great cars but don't think that straight-line performance is what makes a good one. IMO, a Mk3 2.0 Ghia estate would probably be the one I'd want. Maybe the V6 or ST220 version but those V6 engines get through a lot of fuel for a car that isn't _that_ fast. I seemingly get better economy from my 3-litre petrol manual 5 Series !

I find with the Mk4 Mondeo there is no real middle ground. They only look good in a Titanium X spec and in a light colour like the cars in the video. Most of the ones left are battered nowadays. The Mk1 could look classy with the nice hubcaps they fitted them with. Moving forward to the Mk5 Mondeo. The steering and handling were a lot more ordinary. It did not have the previous RPJ magic. It did look very well though.
@cornishcarcollectors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your thoughts on the different Mondeo marks. I agree with much of what you have written, the Mk4 looks great in the higher spec models, the Mk5 is handsome but driving experience is very 'modern', and the Mk1 looks great with the right wheel option - I think the Mk1 has aged really well. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to watch.

you can buy diesel mondeos and unturboed duratecs ten a penny but the fastest mondeos outside the UK is just the standard ecoboost. 2.3/2.5 are private imports. any car in ford (NZ only colour: cobalt blue) is a rare ford. why? it was chosen by (ex BTCC champion Paul Radisich) to go on his special edition ford telstar (mazda 626 rebadge) and ford NZ used it on their mondeos (less so the falcons) after that including MINE.

@cornishcarcollectors7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I hope you enjoyed the video. Diminishing sales of the Mondeo put the final nail in the coffin, which is crazy really as BMW, Audi, Mercedes and the like continue to sell large cars successfully and the Mondeo is equally as good (if not better, if you ask me!). Thanks you for watching.

Mk1 aside the Mondeo wasn't really Ford's finest hour imo. The quality and reliability was lacking compared to rivals. I had one as a work car and came to hate it.
@cornishcarcollectors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, it is great to have different points of view. I've always thought the build quality to be pretty good and the Mondeo ahead of most of its direct rivals, but I suppose if you are comparing to the Audi / Mercedes / BMW equivalents then there is an argument these could be better. Thanks for watching.

Easily the ST220 - especially the later facelift version 2005-2007, if a low-mileage, well taken care of example and not a clappped-out banger ready for the scrap heap. Why? The way it drives, looks and sounds. They are just cool. Take a look at another YT video by a guy called Andriano with the title "Ford Mondeo ST220 | The best Ford Mondeo ST 2004 3.0 V6 | 4K" and you'll see why. And I wouldn't call it a luxury car. The Mk 4 Mondeos look too bloated. Ford got the design of the Mk 3 ST220 just right and from every angle.

@levichance6 ай бұрын
@@cornishcarcollectors You'd be correct with the Durashift. All of the diesels were paired with the infamous 'Powershift' transmission, which to this day continues to sadly diminish the reputation of the entire mondeo range. Few people realise that the 2.3 Duratec motors are actually from Mazda, and are only paired with the 6-Speed Durashift (Aisin) gearbox, which is basically just a traditional torque converter setup and is not built in house by Ford. Proven to be a strong and reliable unit alongside the 6-speed getrag in the 2.5's!
