We Took Both Lena And Annie Out And About Today!

That was a wonderful outing for both horses and humans. Watching Lena help Annie in the more active water is a great way to help understand herd behavior. It is true that it can work against you, but this time your Lovely Lena was that extra reassurance young Annie needed. Not sure how you feel about it, but seeing a horse experience something new and as calmly as its nature allows, always brings joy to my heart. Hailey is really coming into her own with the confidence she showed handling Lena. Even when Lena got away from her, she stayed calm and just walked up and retrieved the lead rope. She has learned so much and it shows. Well done Dad.

Thanks Sandy. Yes I get a lot of happiness and satisfaction out of it too for sure! Yes, Hailey is amazing, learns fast and implements good practices with the horses. Mostly though just watching and listening actually... It's cool :) It's a good lesson for everybody to watch actually as I advocate letting horses get away if they try really hard to. Then we just walk up very calmly and nonchalantly and retrieve them. Also, due to another horse being there, she'd stay with us and having that knowledge and confidence can go a really long way.

Hailey has grown up into such a lovely young lady. It's been a little while since I've seen her in a video, maybe when she was gathering grass to feed the horses in the arena. So grateful you shared this wonderful outing with us. As always, thank you for all you do.

That was interesting to see two horses on an outing together. Good tips on loading two horses and the pros and cons of having two horses vs one when out and about like this. Lena was a great example for little Annie. I think Lena enjoyed her outing though she was also very excited to be home. Home coming with the trailer is just so much fun to listen to. Fascinating how the horses talk to each other. Little MoMo being one of the most vocal is also quite surprising. Good job Hailey, you handled Lena like a pro 🥰🥰

When we'd go riding and let the horses go in the pond, one of my horses would start digging in the water and lay down . Needless to say we'd always ride bare back . So much fun.

That splashy sounds of the hooves in the water! Great excursion ! How lucky you are to have such a park nearby! Here it’s only some dirt paths along the fields or the roadside. So nice to see how the herd behaviour worked out. Great job everybody.

It's so interesting to see how the least expected thing can spook a horse,something as small as a little grate, it's plain to see you are so in tune with your horses that I think you were aware of that grate before little Annie noticed it

I think Annie would love a pond or pool maybe just more time at the stream but I think she's in love and nervous at the same time. I know the yard stays relatively dry but has she ever rolled in a puddle?

Horses don't tend to roll in puddles... but, it does rain for about 8 months of the year here so there have been plenty of opportunities for her to choose one in the arena. She doesn't.

Great trip with these two ! Yes, always best to have two horses. Lena reassured Annie..quite deep water this time. When I first watched Hailey, she was 9 ! She now handles horses like a champ. Just the pessimistic side of me : in case of accident when there is so much space in the trailer for a single horse, is there any risk for him of being hurt ?

How much fun! Especially getting to do it with your daughter. I realize that the horse don't spend a lot of time in the rivers, but have you thought about using boots since the rivers have rock bottoms? I follow Emma Massingale, and she uses them in the rocky areas. Just a thought... ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎

Maybe because her horses feet are in poor shape. My horses have really solid feet, I'm not worried about the rocks hurting her feet, I'm worried about her slipping and creating any pain in her pasterns and fetlocks. Boots are for horses that have ouchy feet due to poor hoof care, a healthy horse can handle this stuff like it's absolutely nothing. Just a balance thing like it is for us.

​@@StableHorseTrainingit never ceases to amaze me how ingrained it is in the horse world that hooves need "protecting" when in reality, it is "protecting" hooves with metal shoes and boots are the very things that damage hooves in the first place.

Such an amazing trip. I remember you mentioned that Leena is amazing because she is gentle and patient with other ppl (and it shows). I'm curious, which horse after Leena would you consider ideal (for teaching/groundwork/taking to a trip like this) for other ppl not as experienced as you?

Lena and Annie are doing quite well together. Annie is getting more confident with running water. It's a big difference between a lil water bucket and a running Greek/river. Putting one foot into a water bucket does not mean to play in running water while being in for the second time. Im quite happy about Annie's progress Lena is a great calm confident teacher to Annie. Thank you for showing this beautiful place named Alco Park to us. Hailey is now a really very pretty young lady. You can be proud of her..
