October 5, 2021 - The show does not really want to put Elliot and Olivia together as a couple so they give the fans who want them together a teasers to keep them interested. Some die-hard Elliot and Olivia fans say Elliot should not have left the show then they would be together now. I am not an Elliot and Olivia fan and I agree with the people, who say Olivia would not be where she is today if Elliot would have stayed on the show. Olivia needed to spread her wings without Elliot. They are better off as platonic friends.

That is why in previous episodes, she would have discussions about Elliott with Olivia. Heck, Elliott spent most of his time working and away from home. One thing for sure and two things for certain, Kathy was not a stupid woman. She knew her husband very well. I love how obvious it is that Liv didn't just read the letter - she READ that letter. Like, it seems so obvious - the idea that what they had wasn't real - moreover that Elliot didn't think it was real when she really really did - is something she would have had to reread over and over - but there's something so charming in the fact that she can recite it so easily.

Absolutely. That letter would have hurt her so much the first time she read it. That first line about what they were to each other not being real, that would have killed her. But there's such a dichotomy in those words that the more she read it, the more it would sort have become beautiful to her. That line about having the good man she deserves is sweet and then the parallel univers thing kind of validates her feelings where the first line invalidated them. So I think after she came to terms with the hurt of that first line, she actually grew to kind of treasure the letter in a way that made it hurt all over again to learn that Elliot didn't write it. Great writing and such brilliant acting.

Just like despite the fact that she was trying to remain professional, trying to follow police procedure, trying to convince him to get medical attention. But the second he admitted that he didn’t write most of the letter and that Kathy wrote it, you could see the change in her demeanor and focus. Suddenly she was willing to listen to what he had to say and you can hear it when she said, Okay, before sitting down. It was like she thought to herself, Okay so we ARE gonna do this right now. She had to hear more because she had to ease her wounded heart and get that reassurance that he didn’t really feel that way. You could almost see the mixture of relief and irritation on her face when he admitted he didn’t write the letter. And then the faint surprise and hope on her face when he told her the part he HAD written. She was a mass of emotions and literally didn’t know what to say so it’s actually helpful that he collapsed in her arms. It was brilliantly done all around!

It was stunningly painful and beautiful. As much as the timing was bad, ie his current drugged situation, the letter needed to be addressed. It needed to come out that what was written was not his words or feelings, except for the most important part. Once Kathy died, the universes merged and the Parallel Universe became the now. When Olivia is taking Kathy to the doctor and they get hit by another, Olivia stays calm, she does everything she can to assure Kathy that she's okay. Olivia seeing the blood, Kathy looses consciousness and her and Elliot's baby was at risk, she desperately keeps Kathy awake. At the hospital, Elliot arrives at hospital, sees Olivia coming toward him to assure him they are okay. She walks by him and he grabs her, and hugs her. That scene is wonderful. Just like the Robin Williams episode, when Elliot hears Olivia screaming when she wasn't, it was a recording. His angst is a great scene. These 2 had such chemistry.

Yes, Elliot was drugged/high but often in vulnerable moments the truth really comes out. I think at first Elliot was truly grieving the loss of Kathy & struggling w/PTSD over how she had died but as time has gone on I think we’re seeing another kind of “grief”: mourning over the life you envisioned for yourself (& others). I was surprised Kathy helped dictate/write the letter but also not really at the same time: She always knew the deep connection Elliot & Olivia had. Kinda makes me wonder had Elliot met Olivia before Kathy (or even near the same time) would he have still married Kathy or even pursued a relationship w/her?! Had Kathy not gotten pregnant w/Maureen (their first born) and subsequently get married & have the rest of their children, I don’t think Elliot would’ve… and deep down Kathy probably always low-key knew this & couldn’t fully face this realization. The only “card” she had left to play was to dictate (no pun intended) the tone/direction of the letter Elliot “wrote” to Liv.

Exactly why the line of parallel universe is so significant, he wrote it while he was married so in a way he was admitting to Olivia his love for her, the impossibility of it happening then because of the circumstances but he knew that if any other thing would be different he would have always chosen her, if he had met liv earlier or in any other alternative reality they would be able to love each other. But now that he is not longer married they finally can be together, they don't longer need a parallel universe.

This was well done. You could see what it meant to them both as Olivia was slowly connecting the dots and realizing what Stabler was telling her. She was slowly believing again in what she knew to be the truth of all they had meant to one another. And he was letting go of some of the guilt he’s always carried over being in love with Olivia. When she says the last line, her heart was in her throat and he was finally unburdening himself. It was a step in the right direction.

This is madness!!! What a plot twist! In hindsight.. we have been speculating about the contents of the letter, people thinking it was a peace offering or confession of love but this narative makes way more sense. Elliot wrote the letter in Rome when Kathy was still alive and had no intention of staying in New York. He recognized they could nevet be together no matter how much they loved each other. Regardless of what kathy dictated he put in that last line that sort of negates everything else and basically says that it was always her. Confirming that it is not just in her head. It was real. He then decided to give it to her anyway as a way of freeing her from himself... while also feeling guilty about his feelings for liv and kathy's death and trying to honor her. I feel like he saw how she thrived without him and how much she grew and wanted to give her an out. Little did he know that liv never stopped loving him and was not gonna let him go so easily... now with kathy gone it seems as though elliot can't contain his feelings anymore. It pours out of him and he just gravitates towards her. The writers are giving us a very slow burn and angst. Olivia deserves a scene where she just lashes out at him and lets it all out though. I cant wait to see where they take us. EO is endgame!

The "i love you" was also sometbing she could just shrug off as in he doesnt know what hes talking about. I know that some people really disliked this scene because of the fact that they feel like they were click baited into watching it and nothing happened between Bensler as well as the fact that the production team painted Kathy as the bad person. But I feel as though that is not entirely the case, the scene was performed pretty well and here's why. 1. The biggest reason that nothing was happening was that Elliot was drugged. Olivia as a character has been established to be extremely selfless. Like, come on, if she wasn't going to get in the way of Elliot's and Kathy's marriage for her own personal feelings, then she is most definitely not going to take advantage of him while he was drugged on an unknown substance. Had something happened between the two while Elliott was drugged, I definitely would've stopped watching the show, it would ruin her character. 2. Something that should be considered is the fact that it was Kathy who wanted Elliot to attend Olivia's award ceremony. She understands that there is a strong connection between the two, but she is afraid of how far that bond will go. I suspect that Kathy is not jealous of Olivia and even respects her on a certain level (if she was, I don't think she would've wanted Elliot to go to the ceremony in the first place), but she is just more afraid of losing Elliot. If she had lived, she most likely would've let them still see each other but she wanted to ensure that there was a boundary between the two that they couldn't cross. She even hoped that Olivia would be happy and find someone who she deserved, as long as it wasn't Elliot. I could literally write a whole essay on analysis of this scene but just for the sake of not dragging this comment for too long, I'll stop there. But honestly, we've got two seasons of content from these two, fans just need to have some patience, this sort of making up is not going to happen overnight. These two are definitely aware of their feelings for each other, all that needs to happen now is for them to properly discuss it at a proper moment.

I just love their beautiful chemistry. And the way Olivias face became when Elliot told her Kathy wrote the letter. Did y'all see her face after the whole I hope you find a man kind and stuff. To me she looked relieved. Olivia has always been in love with Elliot since day one. So for her to hear him say Kathy wrote the letter it was a relief for her and then the ending there with the it will always be you and I. Her face said it all. She's still in love with Elliot stabler. And Elliot went from laughing at that word soulmates to believing it cuz of Olivia. Not even Kathy made him believe in soulmates. Cuz she wasn't his soulmate. I think it's the opposite. Kathy really loved Olivia. If this was any other woman, Kathy would've probably just confronted her and told her "Hey, you and my husband are getting far too close, I think you should take a step back". elliott was with kathy out of moral and religious obligations and beliefs. had he not gotten her pregnant, he would've been with olivia. he had love for kathy as the mother of his kids and a partner but he had real feelings for olivia. that's who he was always supposed to be with but he met kathy first and got her pregnant. i'm sure both of them thought "what if we met first" many times.

I feel like Kathy just wanted her husband to continue to chose her and their family considering it was her idea for the letter to begin with, he knows exactly how he feels towards Liv. I don’t think he needed Kathy to dictate anything he just won’t admit to himself cuz he thinks he doesn’t deserve to be happy. “In a parallel universe it will always be you and a I” basically instilling that he will always be IN LOVE with Liv. In a way most of the letter didn’t really say anything we didn’t already know like the fact Elliot would’ve never left his wife and kids and that whatever feelings they may have had is only because of the job which could be true but that doesn’t change the fact Kathy even after all those years knew her husband loved another woman.

Her mostly. And I do think she genuinely believed it would help the two of them move on and let go of each other finally. She of course didn’t realize that Elliott was going to add something to the letter that ultimately would make it impossible for the two of them to ever let go and move on from their feelings for each other. So honestly this would have ended up backfiring on Kathy in the long run. Elliott would have stayed with Kathy but his heart would belong to Olivia and vice versa. Honestly it’s probably kinder that she died, because now she doesn’t have to watch her husband spend the rest of their married life pining for another woman he can’t have .

I always felt they loved one another and when they married, they were in love. But the troubles they had in their marriage, their nearly getting divorced but deciding to stay together because she was pregnant, it was all obligation at that point and they were no longer actually in love. They are like so many real life couples who stay together because of the kids or because of their church's stance on divorce when both would be happier if they divorced and each continued to be involved in their children's lives. I think he and Cathy could have been friends once the sting of the divorce faded. So basically, I rambled just to say I agree, he and Cathy held one another back from finding real happiness.

Someone on Tumblr said it. Penance. Guilt. It wasn’t too long after Kathy died when Elliott gave her the letter. He was still overwhelmed by his grief, massive guilt and was suffering from PTSD and not dealing with it. I agree that he gave her the letter as Kathy had wished out of guilt for his own feelings and thinking it was his fault that Kathy died. For him it was as an act of penance for his “sins”, he was paying for his sins of secretly loving Olivia, not being able to let Liv go and for what he thought was his role in Kathy’s horrible death. I also think he felt he didn’t deserve Olivia and that she had moved on anyway. Remember he may still believe that Noah is her biological son and she found someone else to make her happy. At least that seemed to be what he believed after he talked to Finn initially, so I think he assumed she’d let him go and was over any feelings they might have once secretly shared. It’s a complex mess that could be explained and sorted out if they’d just sit the hell down and freaking talk to each other.

The letter reveal contradicts so many things that have already happened on both shows. Not gonna lie, I hate it. The only thing I loved about this scene is Elliot on his knees as if he's worshiping her which is what he should be doing instead of the writers piling up even more unneeded complications onto their relationship. Let them heal so they can love each other. You can have drama without giving them (particularly Olivia) emotional whiplash in the process.
