I have just seen 3000+ ifthese EPP hexagons together to make a quilt, 7ft x7ft. It took me 9 months working on it every day . In view of its size , I have taken it to the long arm quilter to quilt for me. I did it 95% in liberty quilting cotton. Was a real pleasure making it. I did cut my hexagons on a sizzex machine. And rather than the paper , I placed a medium weight wadding behind which is there for good and will save me putting any further Waddington in, unless of coutures yiu wanted it a lot thicker, but remembering this would also increase the weight of the quilt. It did become heavy heavy when I was getting towards the finish . So awaiting it to come back from the quilters to see the finished quilt, you could do in either a few colours or as I did as many colours as you like. Thanks for today .

Wow, Karen, that’s an incredible achievement! 😊 A 7ft x 7ft EPP quilt with 3000+ hexagons is no small feat-what a labor of love! ❤️ Using Liberty quilting will be amazing. I can imagine how heavy it got near the end! I bet it’s going to look stunning once it’s back from the long-arm quilter. Thank you for sharing your journey-it’s truly inspiring! ✂️🌟
@karentoynton89482 ай бұрын
Well I am slightly wrong with the finished size , it was my bad calculations in converting cm to ind. The finished quilt was 9ft x 9ft . It was more when I had a quote to have it quilted , I took to the quilting ladies who brought it to my attention , so I did feel a little silly . Must be more aware next time. It was the correct size for the bed and is about 2inches from the ground all the way round with plenty to go over the pillows . . I could have sold it a few times hehe so I feel an achievement ..

Thank you for hosting this EPP sewalong. A Grandmother's Flower Garden was my intro to hand stitching many years ago. I've always loved the look, but have never tried a whole project, so I'm looking forward to honing my skills before I try to tackle a Lucy Boston quilt. Is it okay if I do your sewalong using a smaller hexagon size (1")? I have an Accuquilt die I'd like to utilize for the fabric cutting just to streamline things a bit, but if the 1 1/2" size is preferred, I'm happy to do that. Thanks for the overview of the SewTite products and InvisaFil Threads. I've ordered these to try.

How do you get the papers out? And then isn’t it quite challenging to sell the flowers together after you’ve made his little lap pieces?
@staceyleecreative2 ай бұрын
Great question, Rose! 😊 To remove the papers, you simply peel them out once all the edges are sewn together, as they’re only there to hold the shape temporarily. Sewing the pieces together can feel a bit tricky at first, but taking it slow and using a whipstitch makes it manageable. ✂️🌸

I’m a complete beginner with EPP so this will be my first try. I’m a quilter so I’m not new to making quilts but the process and technique is all new to me and I want to learn this! I have very small hands and fingers and I’m having trouble finding a good size small thimble. The ones you suggested on Amazon do not come in sizes so I know they would be too big. I have a small leather thimble and it’s ok but not good for lots of use. Can you or someone please recommend one similar to the clover thimble you listed in the QAL? I’m eager to join you in this!😊

How do you take paper out of hexagon?
@staceyleecreative6 ай бұрын
You just lift the fabric by the edges and the hexagon comes right out. You remove them once the hexagons are surrounded by another round of paper pieces, or when you are ready to make your quilt. We keep them in until then to hold the shape.
