I have been wanting to try Siril as an alternative to my current methods. But it's a little daunting to pick up something new without any good instruction. Excellent explanations! I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the great video!

I'm too lazy to do flats ( I should, especially taking in consideration the garbage I shoot with, but it is what it is), so automatic scripts don't really work. This video was great, thanks!

You can collect the data with any form of device that can handle it and then process on desktop or laptop.

I haven't used Siril in at least a year. I like it and I like what it's about. But I was always frustrated with it's lack of a curves tool which is a crucial part of my work flow.

@@SKYST0RY you should try the new 1.2.X version. It's improved A LOT! I like to stack and do some prep, and then use GIMP for stretching different layers and comparing.

Very helpful so now I know I can stack without the calibration. However, I'm unable to locate Siril folder containing the scripts in the Finder even with the hidden files showing. Is there a problem with my Mac? please help and thanks.

Siril may have changed since I made this video. I have mostly been working with PixInsight and Affinity Photo for developing for a while.

When i try to register it wont let and it says that i need to debayer the squence for registration. what does that mean? Also whenever i tried to stack it it stacked but then when i put my stacked file in siril i dont see anything yet the preview of it shows something is there

I switched over to PixInsight and Siril has been through many upgrades since, so it probably doesn't work quite the same since I made this video. But from what I recall, there is a debayer option under the conversion tab. You have to click that if you are using a color image so it knows to process the three color channels separately that composite them back together at the end. Hope that helps.

I tried to stack yesterday. After 10 minutes it threw an error saying I didn't have nough memory or some shit. I use a gaming laptop so I'm not sure where it went wrong.

I wish I could help. I haven't used Sirl in about a year though and don't remember its processes. Stacking is a memory hog, though. You might want to try the Deep Sky Stacker, which is free and very powerful though I don't think it allows as much custom adjustment.

great vid, I am pretty new to all of this and most videos start from the middle and even those who say from to finish miss out on a lot of things I don't know notting about like darks and flats and what ever. hope this will make me do something with my telescope. but a question, if I tray to get Saturn and I use a robotic telescope that can kinda track, do I use the same technic for stacking the pictures even if its a planet?

I don't do much planetary imaging but, from my understanding, it would be best to use a dedicated planetary stacker.

No matter what I do, no matter how many times I start from scratch on this video I cannot Go Register. It does not open. Is thee a known issue using Siril with Mac mini M2?

I wish I could help you but I've never used the Mac version nor even used a Mac.

If you've shot your data with a color camera and you didn't do calibration (as in this video), you'll probably still have images which need something called debayering to be able to be registered. If this is the your issue, you should also see a red text just under the "Go Register" button indicating this. There are two ways to go about this. 1. The best is to always use calibration frames. And proper ones too for that matter. In the calibration tab you will need to check "Debayer before saving". The calibrated files will then be debayered. 2. You can skip the calibration step (as in the video), but you'll then need to debayer the images in the conversion tab. In order to do so, just check the "Debayer" checkbox to the right of the Convert button. I think I'll go and cover this on my channel ;-)

Ok so I have a Mac and have Siril on it. the problem I ran into is if I have more than 200 or so light photos my computer doesn't have enough storage and the script will stop when its almost done. I bought an external flash drive and have the photos on the drive. However when I go into Siril click the home button to pick the files I want to stack my usb drive does not appear. Any tips?

Probably got to allow Siril to access the files on the external hard drive. Google it and you will find an quick solution. It is easy to allow.

Hey Cliff, Interestingly, I was able to do the manual stack as on 70 FITS files thanks to your video instruction, however, it rejected 39 of them for some reason. Yet, when I do a SCRIPT-based stack, it registers and uses all 70 files. I must have some stringency setting in the manual mode that is causing this rejection. Any idea what might be the most likely cause?

Lol calling Siril userfriendly is probably the joke of the decade. Tutorial didn't work for fits images.... which as you said are the standard....

My thoughts exactly🤣🤣 That is strange. My fits files work ok that I converted with siril. What errors does it bring up? This tutorial is ok, but basic on the options. Siril is huge and after using it a while it's still a bit daunting... You can get a script online... Called something like "no drizzle_no dfb" (darks, flats, bias) that works pretty well for me. OP it's a shame you didn't go in to quality selection after registration
