A. W. Tozer playlist: • A. W. Tozer Sermons
Shortly before his death, Tozer wrote: "Another kind of religious leader must arise among us. He must be of the old prophet type, a man who has seen visions of God and has heard a voice from the Throne." I am convinced that Aiden Wilson Tozer himself was such a man.
In his 1948 classic The Pursuit of God, Tozer challenged the stiff and wooden quality of many Christian lives. He noted: "Complacency is the deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people." Indeed, Tozer believed that thirst for God was the sign of coming revival.
Tozer's passion for a deeper knowledge of God led him to study the great devotional writers of the past. "These people know God, and I want to know what they know about God and how they came to know it," he observed. Prayer and worship were the hallmarks of his life. One biographer states that his preaching as well as his writings were simply an extension of his prayer life. Another noted that Tozer spent more time on his knees than at his desk.
He called for a return to astonishment and wonder at the majesty of God. Then he added: "The God of the modern evangelical rarely astonishes anybody. He manages to stay pretty much within the constitution;very well-behaved, very denominational and very much one of us."
In modern evangelicalism, contended Tozer, we work, we have our agendas--in fact, we have almost everything except the spirit of true worship. He defined worship as a humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe, astonished wonder and overpowering love in the presence of the unspeakable Majesty. He reminded the pastors, "We're here to be worshippers first and workers only second; Out of enraptured, admiring, adoring souls God does His work. The work done by a worshipper will have eternity in it."
Tozer believed that worship rises and falls with our concept of God and that if there was one terrible disease in the modern church, it was that we do not see God as great as He is: "We're too familiar with God. ...that is why I do not believe in these half-converted cowboys who call God `the Man Upstairs'."
In the Preface to The Knowledge of the Holy, his last book, Tozer stated how important our view of God is: "The church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. .. A whole new philosophy of the Christian life has resulted from this one basic error."
Tozer addressed the state of the evangelical church even more bluntly in Keys to the Deeper Life. In a chapter entitled "No Revival Without Reformation", he stated: "A widespread revival of the kind of Christianity we know today in America might prove to be a moral tragedy from which we would not recover in a hundred years." The imperative need of the day, he affirmed, was not simply revival but a radical reformation that went to the root of our moral and spiritual maladies: "Prayer for revival will prevail when it is accompanied by radical amendment of life; not before."

And yes...i have been a mental wreck because of my fear to no longer be forgiven. Thank you Father for being merciful. Thank you for being patient...and for leading us like lambs.

The way to stop being controlled by your sinful nature, is to give up all your own corrupt way, and turn it all over to Christ. Anything you hold back will stop the miracle from being achieved in your heart! God gives a new, clean, responsive heart to those who put all their trust in Him. Ezekiel 36:25-27. This is the only way that we can please God. All are doomed without sincere repentance, and a changed heart. Jesus died for us, and then SENT HIS SPIRIT, to change us from the inside out! Without the Spirit, you are not a son of God! (Romans 8:13&14). Jesus started the process of salvation. He completes it too, by His Spirit within. I John 3:6-8 says"Noone who lives in him (Christ) keeps on sinning. No-one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil... The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work"! Don't be deceived!!!!! There will be many false prophets and teachers!!!

@@7ashoBeam"living according to the sinful nature" (Romans 8) is not recognising that we have died with Christ, our "old man"crucified with Him. Then we are raised again, as Christ raised from the dead, no longer slaves to sin, instead led by the Spirit. This was the reason we were baptised into Christ. If we do not recognise this, we are not born of the Spirit. Anyone who thinks that they can please God, whilst operating in a sinful, unregenerate state is fooling themselves. Romans 8:13"For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will DIE... "8:8"those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God" If you read 8:14, the answer to our dilemma is only met by living by faith in Christ; by being led by the Spirit within. Our very MOTIVES are judged by the Spirit, and, as in the eternal covenant, given to Abraham, we are COMMANDED to walk blamelessly. This is only possible if we are no longer slaves to sin, but led by the Spirit.

@@7ashoBeam God's precepts and law are written on the hearts of those who have the Spirit. He teaches us His ways. Obedience to the preeminence of God in our lives, and a healthy fear of God means that we cannot go on in lawlessness, but must submit to His higher way. "Anyone who continues to sin has neither seen Him nor known Him" 1John. If we truly see the Lord, we cannot stay the same. Our sin is scarlet, and our future is bleak. Turning from our own broken way to His requires the shedding of many skins, as well as a heart transplant. But God is able if we are willing. By the way, to enter God's kingdom, after repentance, we MUST be born of water (die with Christ and be raised clean) and the Spirit (who works in us to will and do His good pleasure, sanctifying us) John3:5.

@@7ashoBeam since "Jew's and Gentiles alike are all under sin", and "there is no-one righteous, not even one" (Romans 3:9&10), no-one can say they are sinless, by their own merit! As Paul said, the law was valuable, not to make men righteous, but to make us aware of our sin, Romans 3:20. The only way of salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ who paid His life for ours. Now, the way we overcome sin is to die with Christ, and be raised clean, and led by the Spirit. He writes God's ways in our hearts, now that we have a new, clean responsive heart. We don't need to follow the Mosaic law with all its additions. As gentiles, we would have to be circumcised, and keep every "jot and tittle" of an obsolete covenant that we weren't invited to commit to. We are Abraham's children however, by adoption into Christ. Which means we are required to "walk blamelessly before (our) God". Paul clarifies the law of God and the law of Christ as current, and the Mosaic law as superseded by the law of Christ. He writes, "It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes from faith" Romans 4:13. In Matthew 7:23, Where Jesus Christ warns us that many who call out Lord, Lord will be told "I never knew you. Away from me you lawless ones/sinners", Jesus is referring to those who haven't repented and left their sin. If we turn to Christ, we MUST leave our old lives, sin and all, and die to sin through baptism into Christ's death, and be resurrected so that we can live in new life (Romans 6:1-14). Then we must be immersed in the Spirit/born of the Spirit and fire! This is how we are sanctified and enabled to live a new life, led by the Spirit. If, by your own efforts, you seek to satisfy the requirements of the law, you will live a futile life. It is not possible for unregenerate sinners to achieve this! Only by the Spirit can we please God! Romans 8:8.

@@mwovemwitingi417 perhaps you should read that scripture again. The operative words are "In Jesus Christ". We are only found IN Christ if we have not walked away, but "remain IN Him". That portion of scripture (Romans chapter 8) that you read makes it clear that "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God". So we can't just keep sinning, expecting Christ to just forgive our constant transgression! In 1John 3:6&7, 10 the apostle John clarifies; "No-one who lives in Him (Christ) keeps on sinning! No-one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous! Gods love is not extended to those who choose sin over Him! We should be afraid, if we are still controlled by sin! As Paul wrote in Romans 8:13&14 "For if you live according to the sinful nature you will die but if by the Spirit, you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God". To get a spirit responsive to His Spirit, your "old man" must die! That is why He commands baptism in water and the Spirit (John 3:5). We must have the heart of stone replaced with a heart of flesh, new, clean, responsive to God (Ezekiel 36:25-27). Trying to follow God with our fleshly, sinful nature is futile. We are still spiritually dead! To LIVE, we must hate our own corrupt way, give Him authority to change us, and listen carefully to Him. REPENT NOW, before it is too late! Also, read 1John chapters 2&3

Faith produces works but works can never produce faith or grace of God. Only Jesus covers sin and changes a sinner from the inside out and not the outside in! God has the power to transform us, inside and out. If the inside is still dirty, you are not born of the Spirit. The New Covenant, by Jesus Christ, involves a heart change, (Ezekiel 36:25-27), and a progressively transformed mind also. Those who do not walk in purity, will not see God.

@@nicholascarter6543 I dont underatand where you think the misunderstanding is. I merely responded to what Joshua was sharing about his sin and relief. The only relief we have regarding sin is to be cleansed from it. While we are walking in sin, we are right to be afraid. God only covered sin until Jesus fulfilled the law by paying for our penalty, so that the Spirit could enter our hearts, change them and move us to follow Gods decrees and keep His laws (Ezekiel 36:25-27, Romans 8:9,13&14). After Jesus rose, He saves us FROM our sin, not IN it! Those people who are carnal or soulish do not worship Him in SPIRIT and TRUTH! Only the PURE will see God (not the covered!). We are now slave to righteousness, (not sin!), if we are born of God! (Romans 6, 1John 3:5-10). Today is the day of salvation, if we repent (leave our sin!).

He who does what is right is righteous, just as Christ is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil... The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work"! Being found a slave to sin, when Christ comes, is not a laughing matter!!!! God made His way clear, we must leave our sin, in fact our whole "old man" must die! Romans8:9,13,14. Then He does the miracle - He gives us a new, clean, responsive heart, led by the Spirit within, Ezekiel 36:25-27. Without this miracle, that only God can do, we have no hope! Jesus STARTED this new narrow way, by dying to pay our sindebt, IF we give up our old life/desires/everything!.Then He completes this salvation process by His Spirit within us, IF we remain in Him! Jesus said "I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit "(John 3:5). Do not be deceived!!!! A man cannot have two masters. Sin, or God! What man could not do (save himself!), God is doing amongst those who call out to Him from a pure (and honest!) heart!!!! He hears the humble!

men don't preach this way now, and it's better to listen to men who knew Christ 50 or so odd years ago then today. Where the Holy Spirit is in a person, either 50 years ago or a memory of someone you knew, it is better to listen to them, then to men today. Men today have become so corrupt, preachers have left the flock. There are so few men of God these days in the ministry, who actually have God's Holy Spirit. The last time I heard this kind of teaching was during the 1980s.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is refusing to BELIEVE the testimony of the Holy Spirit, who reveals the truth of Jesus to mankind that He is God and Messiah. By attributing Jesus' miracles to the devil when Jesus was in the flesh, the people in Jesus' day refused to believe that Jesus was God and Messiah. It is the same today. For example, it is not, "oh look at those people speaking in tongues, that must be from the devil", etc.

AW Tozer was the real deal. He’s 100% right. One verse alone isn’t enough to establish a life long doctrine, a teachable doctrine. It has to be consistent with Gods character over the entirety of the Bible. Many Christian’s have wanted to take their own lives over false doctrines based on this verse and others.

This man was Leonard Ravenhill's mentor and said of Tozer; I'm lost in adoration (Ravenhill about Tozer) Dr. Tozer told me as a mature man in his sixties that there where times when he lay on the rug for an hour, two hours, three hours, four hours and never uttered a word of prayer, and never uttered a word of praise. He said, "I'm lost in adoration, I see Him in His glory, in His majesty, in His beauty. I can hear those holy beings crying, 'Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord.'" And he said, "I'm silent in adoration before Him. I had no language, it is beggered." And he had a vocabulary as good as any man I know, and he had read more of the mystics, I think, than any man I know, and he had some of the closest encounters to God of any man I know. Leonard Ravenhill

Wow I needed this, thank You Jesus! Don't lose faith my brothers and sister in Christ, so long as there is breath in us there is always hope. 1 John 1:7-9 KJV - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Pastor Tozer is able to penetrate the Gospel with insight, depth and discernment yet as I have said before he has such a "down-home" way of talking that I have to smile as I listen to him. There was an English lawyer (barrister?) who won way over 200 cases in a row. Someone asked him how he was able to do that, he said, "I just do my homework". If someone says that that night the street lamp was not working, he checks it out. Likewise, Pastor Tozer does his "homework" then adds his "down-home" twist. - john

@wbauerle
@wbauerle Жыл бұрын
I too was in willful sin but it is falling away more and more. Focus on Jesus and that he has forgiven you for the sin through your faith in him and what he has accomplished. As you focus on the sin and lament it, it is on your mind and then you are more liable to repeat it, believe me, I know this from experience. If you focus on Jesus and give thanks for his forgiveness, then you have no time or thought for the sin, and though for a time you may still sin, Jesus works in you and it is less and less frequent until one day it is gone from you though none will ever be perfect while in this flesh as our flesh itself is sinful in nature. Focus on your salvation through Christ Jesus, not on your sin. While you are feeling love of Christ for what he has done for you, it is hard for that temptation to win over you again.

We have a wonderful God that is why we struggle with sin because He loves us so much and when we sin we feel so ashmed because we have sinned against a Holy God that he forgives our sin no matter what we do we should forsake sin and love our lord with all our hearts and minds because of what Jesus did for us and that way He gives us a clean conscience.
