@thesphyrth3 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedCubeReview I've been aware of this issue because of your G5 Video. For the Cubing Community, I personally like it because I believe G5 is better suited for Cubing. My minor gripe is that the thumb pads should only apply to STARTING, and not STOPPING. For the Stacking Community, it's a very different beast altogether. They've developed a technique to place their ARMS on the timer instead of their hands... both for starting and stopping. It places their hands very near the cup and in a position to save precious millisecond/s. G5 is basically trying to create a new era of Stacking; an era that alienates the current generation of Stackers.

How secure are the batteries in the G5 timer? I have the g4 and decided to try deliberately resetting my times, replicating the issues seen in previous world championships. I couldn't do it. It wasn't possible. No matter how many times I tried the reset and power buttons didn't work when I slapped them after a solve. So I asked some cubers on discord and the consensus seems to be that the batteries in the g4 can be dislodged if you hit it hard enough. So yeah, do you reckon there's any way that the battery/batteries in the g5 timer could be dislodged in the same way?

The problem with each timer G5: ruin speed stacks, and the design is weird G4: could accidentally reset the time Stackmat Pro: you need to use the round batteries Qiyi Timer: almost the same as G4 YJ Timer: inaccurate time? Gan Timer: too much batteries YJ Pocket Timer: you cant use it with mat and it has annoying beeping sound (you can turn it off) Yuxin Timer V1: have a useless reaction button Yuxin Timer V2: if you drop the timer, it will remove your saved time (not really a problem for a cuber), also have a useless reaction button Moyu Timer v1: use weird round magnet (same like the stackmat pro), cant connect to cstimer, weird shape Moyu Timer v2: no difference (except for the batteries) G2: Perfect G1: Hard to start the timer GX: too small

The G4 also seems to have issues with the reset button after a while. Mine just stopped giving that tactile feel and click sound when pressing and also became kinda hard to press after a year of use. I think I'm going to remove the faulty one and put a new button eventually, I'm just not sure how to disconnect the touch pads without damaging it to get the PCB out and change the button for a new one (I've already done this sort of thing replacing microswitches in old mouses and trackballs, can't be much harder). The plastic cover for this button also seems to fail for lots of people. It's not uncommon to see people with the button exposed or with some sticker over the button to hold it in place. I also decided to test the QiYi timer recently and out of the box it works reasonably well. It requires alkaline batteries and will have the numbers faded and hard to read if you don't have fresh batteries, while the G4 isn't as picky with batteries and will continue working just fine as long as they're not overly depleted. I'm not sure if the reset button will fail after a while too, but time will tell. The data port is also a bit finnicky, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, could be a problem with the jack, but it doesn't like most of the cables I've tried. Not really a huge deal for me as I never managed to buy one of those 90° cables and regular ones stick out a bit too much for me, so I usually just type the time.
@saahirbajaj10363 жыл бұрын
If the Qiyi timer is almost same as G4 but $20 cheaper then where is the PROBLEM ???

@@saahirbajaj1036 easy accidentally timer reset
@gcolombelli3 жыл бұрын
@@saahirbajaj1036 The QiYi and YJ timers are probably the best budget timers out there. That said, I'm not too confident on how long those reset buttons will last on any of them. I'm not sure how many cycles they are designed to last, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it was something like 20.000 to 50.000 cycles, it is way less than microswitches commonly used in mouses that are made to last millions of cycles. It's not too hard to replace them if you have some soldering skills, but it's still very inconvenient and most people will just end up replacing the entire timer because of a failed button.
