Staedtler Noris Digital Jumbo EMR pencil review (ft. Onyx Boox Note Air) Spoiler: It's Great!

Hi everyone, some points I raised in the video are in fact results of my unfamiliarity with Boox Note Air software. For example, the "stroke eraser" was selected in the video, so that it will erase the whole stroke (duh!). You can change it to "mobile eraser" to erase part of the stroke. Also, the rendering latency after each stroke is also configurable in the Notes setting. There are lots of hidden settings in the Boox devices! I will probably make a video about them sometime in the future.

I believe the lag you mentioned, is basically the Boox smoothing out the stroke to make it look good. The smoothing is happening after you complete a full stroke & move on to the next stroke, so it can't do it while you're writing. Just like the INKredible app & of course, now a lot of the apps already smooth out handwriting for the users. As compared to let's say Remarkable 1, where my writing is downright horrible, on Boox Note Air, it looks pretty decent due to the smoothing. I'd take the lag due to the smoothing any day over maybe quicker completion, but without smoothing.

I just got a Staedtler Noris Digital Jumbo for my Nova 2 with screen protector. Definitely, an improvement on grip and comfort compared to nova 2 included pen.

Yes, the Noris digital jumbo is quite nice! Many people say it is their favorite pen.

Thanks for the comparison and review. I'm fine with the included stylus that comes with my Note Air, since I don't actually hand write a lot. But it doesn't hurt to look and see what my other stylus options are.

Can you use the the Staedtler stylus with Boox's nib?

In a word: no. Boox has different nibs for their devices. The nib from Max 3 could fit with the Noris, however, only at certain angles can I write with it (not practically usable). The Note Air nib does not fit nor could write with the Noris pen.

Why do I experience "drag as if there's a magnet preventing pen movement in the screen"? It's the same sensation since the time I bought this pen from Amazon. What am I doing wrong? Should I install the screen protector for a more "fluid" feeling when I write? Thanks.

Honestly I have no idea. Mine works out of the box. I will update if it has problems in the coming days or month of use. I don’t think it is the protector.

Does your note air pen nip shake around? Received mine and it’s not firm, if I shake it I can see it moving and make a sound. When I write it moves too, bothers me a lot.

I think all pen nibs are not completely rigid. They have some room to move around if I wiggle it. It does not bother me in writing. If you suspect your pen has quality control issues, consider contacting Onyx for a replacement.

@@EReaderChannel yes I'll contact them. think mine is a bit abnormally loose. I know it has some give when I put pressure, but mine would move and make sounds just by shaking it, and lightly tab on it. thanks.

I purchased a Staetdler Noris Jumbo for Onyx Note Air based on positive reviews. I was quite DISAPPOINTED. The Noris Jumbo is very light and plastic feeling. Writing is not much improved from the Note Air pen (which is terrible). Not worth it. Must be better alternatives out there.

I must admit that my user experience is highly subjective. I think the Note Air pen is ok (wouldn't say it is terrible). Noris Digital Jumbo writes better for me. There is a significant difference between the two in their nib materials. The Note Air pen is much harder and more precise. The Noris is a little bit softer and has more pen and paper feel (at least to me). It seems that you have very high standard for these products.

Thanks! I just learned that there are different mode of erasers. This pen works well in all modes.

@@hijklibo5774 If you click on the eraser icon in the notes app, it shows "mobile eraser", "stroke eraser", "area eraser", "eraser current layer", and "erase all layers". I was referring to these different options. I thought luiz garbriel's "drag rubber" was one of them, but I might misunderstood his/her intention.

Gave you an abo and will work through your vids. I have the same setup since some days now. I'm very happy at all but notice here and there some"problems". The material of the pen is called Wopex. It's PEFC certified wood out of german forests combined with like plastic/glue explained in a nutshell.

@@EReaderChannel Maybe, or lets say I think it's a sw problem, it's general but I use only the Jumbo directly from the beginning. Sometimes it feels the actual stroke is little shifted to the side, so not exactly underneath the nib. Or I write something and the system doesn't recognize it. Or it recognize it but I'am nearly finished the word and than it starts to write it on screen really fast. It doesn't feel consistent at all. But I also have to get used to it more. At the end of the day I'am fine with it. But I'am a perfectionist and would never deliver this kind of work. I have also some other things I don't like, but nowadays it's with every device the same story somehow.

No. It is the first gen Note Air. Also note that when this video was made it was firmware 3.1. But now firmware 3.2 is the default for most onyx Boox devices

@@EReaderChannel thank You for responding. After my pencil tip broke, my onyx boox screen froze, after I charged it to 100%, and the back light was on. I waited 2 days so the device will run out of battery, and after 48 hours the backlight turned off. So i long- pressed the power button, and it told me that android 10 was deleted or something, and it showed me that i can restart it or try again by power button and volume up button, which the device doesn't have, so i pressed the power button again and it showed me an error screen. From then I didn't do anything to it. *Do you have any idea on how to repair it*?? Also, I'm sorry if my english is not ok, it isn't my first language.

I haven't. I wonder whether re-calibrating the pen would enhance its precision.

I calibrate with the original one like claimed in the sw from Boox.
