Stage 3 restored FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser with Cummins R2.8 / 8HP80 Eye Candy That Performs!

We are very proud of our body-off 60 series Land Cruiser restorations. It's genuinely satisfying to be able to pay attention to every detail on a build like this. Thanks to the clients that allow us to this to their Toyota Land Cruisers! This 1985 FJ60 is one of the lucky ones. It's a body-off resto-mod with a Cummins R2.8 and an 8 speed automatic. The interior is modernized with power / heated 100 series Land Cruiser seats, OEM replica cloth, and a premium stereo system with dash / backup camera system. The suspension is an OME 2.5" lift with 33X10.50 BFG ATs.

I've been following these R2.8 conversions since buying a new Foton Tunland (Australia) with the ISF 2.8 back in 2018. Only 50,000Km's so far with a lot of offroad driving but it's been trouble free, touch wood. I am aware of another one though that had an oil pump failure around 40,000Km's. Only time will tell. They do run warm with heavy towing or in very hot summer.

I've done some off road driving in Australia. Lots of routes including the Canning Stock. I need to come back down there. You are correct, they do run warm. We use a huge radiator and mechanical fan to cool them. I recommend against towing except for light trailers.

First of all, you have a whole drawer full of stickers? I need donations for the sticker wall in my new (personal) shop. Second of all, you have to know what I mean. usually, they are Subarus or minivans.

That tire size speedometer adapter… what’s it called. How do you get one? So many questions… take my credit card

They come from Commercial Speedometer in CA. They've been really hard to get since covid for some reason. All they need is the vehicle's actual speed when a GPS says 60 MPH.

161 HP at 3600 RPM 310 lb-ft @ 1800 RPM I should have gotten the other data you mentioned before the truck went away, but there are others in the pipeline.

What's the reliability on the motor compared to a Toyota motor

Well, it's hard to know because the R2.8 has only been available to us for about 7 years. We've done 39 swaps so far and no significant issues. I will say that even though I love the Cummins, I don't think that any OEM or aftermarket drivetrain can really compare to Toyota engineering.
