Cedric F is spot on. I had the distinct privilege to see Mr. Emmanuel at BB King's in NYC ( I am a native NY'er). I have been been playing guitar for 38 years, and get paid a little bit for my efforts as a second career. What have I learned from all those years of practice and performance. 1- I am not even worthy to clean the lint from Tommy's guitar case.... 2 - Tommy is a superb and humble human being who has enhanced the quality of life for millions of people.... and last but not least: Tommy is IMHO the greatest guitarist in the history of acoustic playing. I will forever rejoice in seeing him live; it hit a place in my soul that few could.

I've seen him in smaller clubs and he likes to bounce the amp off the back wall which is clever. I'm primarily an upright bassist and I've used that trick for that instrument as well, to give it more spread, make it sound more natural and less direct. When I do solo guitar gigs I use two Compact 60/2s in stereo and they sound amazing. Long live TE.

Hi Tommy! I see on The colourizer you're actually have The intensity/balance thing happening, since The intensity pot is set 12 noon, halfaway working. Was that on purpose? The sound is just breath taking, saw Tommy in Charlotte a few weeks ago in a small old church theater and the sound just blew us away, like a full orchestra! Hello. Will any PA System preserve the acoustic pristine sound of the Aer Amplifier? Or is the Colouriser compulsory for this purpose? In the case of no need for coloriser to preserve the sound of the Aer, will a Mackie board and Mackie Active speakers do the trick? I am a solo band, electroacoustic guitar and voice. I tried Aer Compact 60/3 in a shop and it will sound amazing for small pubs. Problem is when i will need sound for larger venues or open places. Any suggestion very welcome! Thanks!

Just came across this great video, im confused though when he says the Bypass goes to the AER amp, does this mean he is using the AER only as a retrun on stage or does the AER also go to the PA ? if so why ?as the Colorizer XLR out goes to the PA?
@kalaecamarillo40305 жыл бұрын
i was wondering the same thing. Maybe he runs them as two channels to play stereo
@thonguyen79994 жыл бұрын
yeah meto . The aer pre amp have 2 out as he said 1 to PA 2 bypass to Aer amp very confuse
@vent10l4 жыл бұрын
He sends one signal from the colorizers xlr to the mixer, Also a bypass from the colorizer to the compact 60 which goes via xlr to the mixer and then PA. So he sends both signals to the mixer and they are in fase, and then to the PA and to the stage sound
@thonguyen79994 жыл бұрын
@@vent10l Can I ask what is bypass mean? Does signal will not affect by colourizes when go out through bypass? So maybe 1/Signal go to colourize affected them go to mixer. 2/ Signal not affect go through by pass to affecte by Aer amp is that right huhu?
@vent10l4 жыл бұрын
@@thonguyen7999 Yes, that seems right :-) Bypassed means that the signal goes unaffected through the colorizer without EQ etc. So yes :-)

Hello Tommy! You are amazing and an inspiration for many! One question i have is i recently got a thumb pick as i know you like to use one, however Is there specific songs it should be used for and if so how do i tell what it would be best for? Because you didn't use one in your Lewis and Clark recording but did in your Classical gas recording for example, sorry if i sound inexperienced I've only been playing five months and trying to work out what is best for me.

So am I hearing this right? He's sending 2 DI's to the front of house? One from the colourizer and one from the amp? Or is he just using the amp as a stage monitor and only the colourizer is going to the PA?
@Njihdvoje Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. He sends two signals to front house. One from the colourizer and one from the amp (DI out). He usually have four monitors, two in front of him, and two in the back. And he like to hear sound from amp itself as well, but he never point his amp to the audience.

Hi Tommy and his staff, I own a 225 and I'd like to maybe upgrade (even if it's an excellent guitar) . I really love the reaction of the wood, when you hear the sound of the tapping on it. That's why I choose a Maton guitar....I love to record beat loops with my guitar and the Maton was the best among all for that stuff. And the question is: which Maton guitar model (or pick up set up) is the best for percussive guitar ? Thank you guys !

another question...what tuner(and metronme) do you use? ..The KorhTM 40 maybe?(thank you..)
@MariuszKatowice6 жыл бұрын
Before I saw this video I was looking for an small acoustic amplifier; acoustic guitar and vocal. In this interview, Mr. Tommy said an important thing: Its not a natural sound (when You play loud on this amp). I tested many amplifiers (AER 60 III , Marshall, VOX, Ld System PA ) and no one sounded naturally, acoustically after 10 AM. After that the vocal sounded really bad. Before I have the idea of buying a new amplifier, I used the Alto 112A loudspeaker with a mixer that had Lexicon effects. Unfortunately, the dimensions and weight very large for transport. So I asked the question what we need for the vocal and acoustic guitar ? We need a full range that is the same as with HIFI ? So why not try it ? I connected my old JVC small amplifier, Sony speakers (2 Way 5inch with bass reflex) and mixer. I connected the guitar and then G major ... the guitar sounded great for the first time. Then I tested the microphone and the sound was fantastic again. The guitar and vocal sound beautiful, warm and naturally. Beautiful soft bass. Its a great solution for a small gigs better than every acoustic amplifier. I bought the boss Ad2 and the guitar sounds even better. Stay Tuned Guys ! BTW; Its very good that Mr .Tommy said the truth about the sound ! Sorry for my English...

Yea I want to ask the same question... I'm surprised that he didn't use a reverb pedal. I know his sound man will add reverb for the PA signal, but what about the stage monitor? Is the reverb effect on the AER good enough for different styles that he play??

Can anybody explain me how he set the level on mic and piezo please? He says “a quarter” about piezo, but seems like if he turns the hand for about three quarters... and about mic he says “ten” so max volume? Thanks
@Njihdvoje6 жыл бұрын
@Daniele Mantarro He has mic and piezzo on ten, so max out both, and yes main volume is on ten too. "A quater" he is refering for midrange. And when he plays some balads, he turn down a little bit piezo. But remember this, my mic on my Maton guitar is much more quieter then on Tommy's Maton. So for me to get that sound, nice mix pickup and piezo in same time I have to put piezo halfway down to get that Tommy's sound. I did asked about this Maton company and Tommy, and I just have quieter mic. But Tommy said once to me he has one Maton with quieter mic too.

What is the difference between these two 808 guitars?
@gurey0010 жыл бұрын
Nothing, really. They are both Custom Shop 808TE's that Andy Allen has made. He has one in Drop D and the other in standard tuning to save tuning time. He occasionally brings the A string down to G for some other tunes as well.
@TheDecidingBullet10 жыл бұрын
In another "interview" he said he keeps one in standard tuning and the other 808 in a Drop D tuning. that way, he doesn't need to tune as much. It might only be 1 string difference but a guitar has to set into a tuning ;)
@trimwix99448 жыл бұрын
it's hilarious how they ask for all specs on Tommy's equipment. they think by asking for the exact specifications they're going to get the sound that Tommy Emmanuel has practiced over the years to perfect. you can't pull out and strum the guitar a few nights a week then expect to sound like Tommy Emmanuel. he's always preached to practice practice and practice. and when you're done practicing, practice some more. only practicing everyday for as long as you can, then maybe you can sound like Tommy Emmanuel. like the man says "get to work".
