Oh Bill. I had to go back and look at this one. You have reminded me why I won't be trying those moss balls! I love your cheery nature and can-do attitude. It is quite infectious. Good luck with the fern.

Hi Bill, I hope the growing tip roots soon. But I'll give you two warnings, that moss ball will need frequent soaking, and the dead headed root system could end up sending all kinds of pups all over the ball, which loos amazing but makes for really difficult repotting, or remounting in this case. Good luck, looks really cool.
@PlantzNThings9 жыл бұрын
+Franz von Köller Thank you for the Tips... and yes I have been watering it very regularly... mostly because I am worried about the rootless top..lol

Dude, Bill, THANK-YOU for having all the plants! Every plant I look up, you have! It's been this way for years. Bless you for your knowledge and vast collection of specimens. You rock man.

I have aquired a pup, I'm going to do this :) Right now, mine is sitting on the moss in a hanging basket for about 2 weeks and i think it's not touching the moss enough, looks like it is getting stressed
@21Cauzzie9 жыл бұрын
How are you going to keep it moist? I think on a piece of wood the wood would stay moist for longer. But yours will look really nice when it gets a go on.

Watching this video gave me both fond and frustrating memories of the time I mounted my staghorn fern back in April. I think the ball method will have faster evaporation than if mounted on a board. Also - do you know about sporotrichosis? I'm sort of paranoid about it so I never handle sphagnum moss barehanded. Anyway, the final result looks really nice! Thanks for sharing!

Your wire basket reminds me of the "macramé" plant hangers I made out of aircraft cable because I wanted something sleeker/chic-er than yarn.
@PlantzNThings9 жыл бұрын
+Problame OOOooo Macramé would be fun! I might try that next time :)

I used lengths of 1/16" cable and the clamps/clips instead of knots in a simple design (plus a ring and an S-hook to hang). They look pretty good; chic and sleek instead of hobby-crafty.

OMG Bill, l just love your humour lol, here l was about to venture into hanging my stag horn (first time) and l come to you looking for help and you go and kill your stag straight up lol, so l thought okay, l can’t do much worse can l? lol. So here l go, l am going to follow your lead because l love the ball idea and l’ll adjust my attitude dial to “Can Do” and we’re set. Wish me luck. Yours turned out beautifully by the way 🙏🏼 it worked.

I love this one! Great job, bill. This type of fern is mount on the tree in my area, indonesia. They love shady shade, just because indonesia is tropical. One day if you want to change it, maybe you can try an old tree pieces and mount the fern on it. :))

oh Bill you are so funny! poor little stack horn fern! how could you do that to him! I am sure it does well in the moss ball. I think when it grows and covers the ball it will look fantastic.
