Stahlwille are also my favorite spanners. There exists 3 different versions. Open box 13 - normal version Open box 14 - long version and Open box 15 (no longer available) - special hex open side. The stamp of the size on the open side are the older version of Stahlwille spanners. All old spanners of Stahlwille has the size stamped on the open side. What is very special about Stahlwille chrome, they use a special procedure so the chrome can’t flake off. You may see on old spanners other tool brands chrome flake off and it’s very sharp so you can hurt. Not so the Stahlwille chrome. It does not flake off.
@carrepairandtoolsvideos Жыл бұрын
Good know that sizes used to be stamped on open end side in old days. I have plan to buy 14 series in future due to its length and off set feature. I totally agree with you that Stahlwille chrome does not flake off and I like it rough look.

I just bought the Hazet 600spc set. The finish isn’t great and there are chips on many spanners. I also have the Stahlwille open box 13 set of spanners and they finish is great, every details is manufactured accurately. It’s a pleasure to use them. I’m thinking of if I have done the right choice with the Hazet, let’s see in practice, or I could have gone with an alternative which would have costed half the cost, like Tekton

On the subject of size marking on wrenches / spanners. I have got into the habet of using a sharpie to mark the size in bigger text size, I find if a clean the wrench than mark the size on going over that text twice and then let them sit over night the stay on fairly well. Yes some fluids can remove them but than after cleaning the wrench just remark them. I also color code them Black for metric and yellow for SAE / A.F..

It sounds great way to that. Personally, I try to keep my tools in original condition and I like how the numbers are forged (like in old days) instead of stamped.

I mentioned about this in the video, there must be something wrong with the spanner or it might be faulty one. Or it could be fake since there are Stahlwille fake wrenches around the internet. I used these wrenches in tough situations, hammered them hard but never broken or deform a single one. Many of my colleagues, friends etc have them for years. The reason Snap-on charges so much is that the purchaser pays in installments. They can pay a certain amount of money every 2 weeks or every month. Which is a convenience that people gladly paid the sir charge for.....

I have the older Stahlwille spanners 10-19mm which had the size forged on the open end as well but Stahlwille removed it. I called Stahlwille because I bought more and thought they were fake because of the missing stamping but confirmed they stopped doing it which was disappointing.

@carrepairandtoolsvideos Жыл бұрын
@@randlecycling2462 That's interesting, these should be forged. I have seen spanner making process (Not Stahlwille). I think it has to do with the ''Die'' they use. These Dies get deformed with the time and they grind and fine tune the deformed ''Dies'' for further use. I assume since the numbers are small and may not be renewed and remove the numbers completely, so they keep using the old ''Die'' until its unusable thus number disappears for those lots. I am just assuming. But as you said, you contacted the Stahlwille and they confirmed its removed. Only Stahlwille can answer that why did they remove it.

Car repair, does the set have 31mm or 33mm wrenches / spanners ?
@carrepairandtoolsvideos Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's missing 31 and 33 mm. Just wondering where would you use these sizes?
@EdAtoZ Жыл бұрын
@@carrepairandtoolsvideos 31mm is used in two different areas 1) bigger riding lawn mowers, use 31mm as the back / pre-load nut for the mower deck bearing that control the shaft to the lower blades. For example my X-march. 2) small Japans sub compact cars from the 1980's thru the 1990's for the lower struts. Yes obsolete example but was the first place I ran into then and finding a socket in 31mm back then was next to impossible. I got one from Elora a german tool company you never hear about on youtube. 33mm is the metric replacement for (1 and 5/16 of an inch "SAE size"). Example Semi-truck lug nuts and I am told some sub-compact car use 33mm as when bear nut. I have not seen that one myself. The only maker of 31mm wrench that I know of is Tekton "worth talking about". My 31mm wrench is a Mac tools discontinued . 33mm wrench I have a Facom 440 series short pattern and a Stanley short pattern.
