This is a good cover. AIC unplugged in 96 was by far the absolute best version. Layne gave it everything he had. Don't know if there could be a bad version of this song. The lyrics are haunting memories of what Layne was dealing with.

You cannot find singers that sing from the heart. Aaron Lewis is o me of them that sings from the bottom of his heart specially when Alice in chains meant a lot to him. He changes the lyrics intentionally as a tribute to Layne, Aaron knows he can never sing it like Layne so he changed on line. Layne is no longer FACING THE PATH OF TIME, now he is TRACING THE TRACKS OF TIME since he is no longer with us. So the change was done on purpose.

+ColdNovemberRain from a musical standpoint, Layne has an incredible range and a vibrato that can't even be compared to, that's a fact jack. You don't have to like him but he was a freak of nature from a musical standpoint, more astounding than 98% of vocalists out there. That's why a lot of today's vocalist have such respect for him.

at first, before hearing this cover, i was a bit sarcastic because i never heard a good cover of any of alice in chains songs, but when the leadsinger opens his mouth for the first line, i was stunned, his voice is perfect for this cover! How are they vastly underrated....everyone pays tribute to them, they had a long career, platinum and gold records, and they sold over 40 million all over the united states, and layne was named somewhere at the top of the rock vocalist charts. That doesn't sound underrated at all, but it is nice to hear tributes and respect spreading around for them so I do still agree. RIP Layne; you were one of the best

Those who disliked this would probably dislike anyone's cover of this song. Aaron did it justice, like you guys said. He knows how to capture emotion in a similar way to Layne. The unplugged version of Alice in Chains isn't a whole lot different, anyways. Like Aaron has said in his interviews, all covers come out of respect. He's not setting out to outdo the person who did the song originally. In fact, I don't think he feels that he could. This is a great cover and Staind also has a unique sound
