QUESTION After your first wash to get the flux off, do you use steel wool on the solder seams before patina?

I would love your help! I am fixed a beautiful stain glass window that the past owners hot glued (and did a terrible job) it together. I am going to have to solder a lot of it and it has like a black color to the old metal. Would applying this everywhere even it out if it’s not a match?

The daisies are beautiful! I've always wondered if you could use fused glass in a stained glass project. Is it possible to do a whole project in fused glass instead of using stained glass?

Great video! Is this patina safe for use on soldered jewelry?

Interesting, where can I buy these products? And what’s your advice, on using this on a china hutch, the doors are glass with solder on them and the solder has become crusty and white looking.

Such a good video. Exactly what I needed. What other soap would you suggest if I don't have access to the one you showed?

I've tried using dish soap mixed with baking soda in the past and it seemed to work for quite a few years. Then suddenly, all of my new projects were getting "white mold" (that nasty white grungy buildup that happens to improperly cleaned solder.) After that I started using the Neutra Clean. I don't remember if I changed flux or not around that time, or maybe there was a change in our well water. It might be worth a try for you if you have nothing else to use. Just keep an eye out for white residue that may appear after a month or two. If that happens, you'll need to find another solution. Hope this helps!

I have SOOO much trouble getting my patina right. It comes out splotchy and grey. not black. I've read lots of suggestions online about making sure I wash off all the flux and making sure it's dry before I apply patina but it's just not working for me. Any suggestions????

Oh, how frustrating! I hear this so often but have never experienced this myself. I wonder if it may have something to do with the brand of patina and/or the brand of solder? Maybe the solder quality is lower and it contains more impurities? I use a 60/40 solder and it's normally Canfield or Artist Pure brands and I've always used the Novacan patina's for solder.. Just remember that not all solder is created equal. Be sure to stick with ones created for stained glass use that you can purchase for reputable sellers.

I follow all of the directions faithfully and all the Novacan Black Patina does is turn the solder a mild grey, not black/

Just keep saturating the solder over and over. It will blacken and has no choice. 😜

I loved this video. Now i want to know how to make a 3D candleholder.

Thanks for the feedback, Kim. I'm planning on making a tutorial for this candle holder and so many more projects too. There's so much on my list, and only so much time. I need three more of me! lol

Does the Neutra work better than Dawn?
@MakeStainedGlass5 жыл бұрын
I really don't know. I've never used Dawn myself as the scent doesn't play well with my allergies however, the Neutra was formulated to do this exact thing.
