I'm a stained glass glazier, working on new and old windows in different studios around europe. I see a lot of artwork from different people and I honestly have to say I'm very impressed by your work, you got a good eye for details, you work really clean and you give your projects the time they need. Keep up the great work and keep inspiring people with your channel! From Canterbury with love!

Outstanding. I believe I would put it in a frame with a glass backing to help protect the beautiful work. The tips look very fragile.

What you are doing in the steel wool step is removing some of the oxidation on the solder lines so that the patina treatment acts evenly. It does have the nice side effect if removing small bits of hardened flux, but this is a secondary effect.

That turned out so amazing man.. A neighbor who was moving just gave me a box full of stained glass tools and glass, and your videos are very inspirational. Only thing missing from stuff she gave me was the grinder. All the parts for the grinder were in the box, but she must have not known what it was since all this stuff was given to her.. I think im gonna start off on something easier than this dire wolf though.. Keep up the great videos man.

So nice of your neighbor! You can start with straight cuts and can probably get away without a grinder for a while. Enjoy the journey and thank you!!

Great job! Turned out fantastic! Sorry to hear about Kiwi passing, Perhaps the next project will be related? Now for some info! It's not a post from me without some is it? Floating overlay isn't good because the adhesive isn't going to stay stuck. You would be better off making the overlays, pulling them off and then using a glue if you want floating solder. Otherwise paints are best but they require you to plan ahead as the paints that don't require a kiln need to be baked on or to sit for ~20 days. Applying patina twice doesn't make it darker, Chemical reactions don't work like that. Once the metal reacts fully it's done and that is what it will look like. Making sure its clean is the most important step!
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. I'm wondering how long the floating overlays will stay on? Gluing them is for sure the right answer for long term work. Haven't tried painting but maybe future stuff. I didn't know doing patina twice doesn't change anything. Saves me another step, thanks Claycorp for the knowledge!!

Hi.. What kind of glass cutter you used for cutting glass for curve/design,,?,

These videos are great! I know absolutely nothing about stained glass but this is sucking me in, lol. Question for you because I really don't know anything - do soldering irons come with different size tips? If they do, would using a smaller tip help when you are doing that overlay stuff - like for finer work?
@StainedGlassDIY3 жыл бұрын
Yes they do come in different size tips. I think the smaller tip could work for finer details but it will cool faster and I've just kept it to the regular tip (3/8" or 1/4") and adjusting my temperature instead...still trying to master the soldering skills

Wow that turned out looking great! I've got some thoughts and questions. I've never heard of the copper foil overlay. I've used acrylic paint (made specifically for glass) because I have problems overheating the foil and it coming off. Have you thought of pinning all your pieces into place before soldering? That way you can make sure the pieces are where they are supposed to be. I've never used the flux remover stuff (and flux and patina remover) before, I just wash everything off using dish soap and water. I know everyone has different ways of doing stained glass though. Still really cool though!
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
I think with the overlays you might want to turn down the temp to minimize overheating the foil. And also how fast you move across your pieces factors in to the heat problem as well. I got really lucky with it this time. As for pinning, somehow I just can't pin them into place correctly at times so I'm just skipping this step. But most my work so far is free form so if it grows a bit it would still look okay. I used to do dish soap and it works great but the flux remover was specifically for patina just to make sure it gets as dark as possible. Thanks and hope that helps!
@VideoGameGlass5 жыл бұрын
@@StainedGlassDIY Ah ok I see. I don't have a temp controlled iron, that'll probably be my next purchase in the future. I recently bought a ring saw, pretty pricey but It'll be worth it. I'll have to try the foil overlay at some point, I would have never thought of using foil (due to my overheating problems, and maybe being impatient). I'll be experimenting with special glass paint (acrylic, not the other kind) to make designs on glass. Thanks for clarifying!
@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
Let me know how the ring saw works out for you. I'm interested to learn more too!

@StainedGlassDIY5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It's soldered on the same way as the front and back. You just have to keep the edge surface level as you work on them to get the solder even.
