The company I work for uses a couple different flux cored SS wires. We use 1/16th gas shielded wire for out of position work or smaller jobs and a 3/32nd self shielded wire for bigger stuff flat and horizontal only with that wire though. I've noticed the big wire runs more of a globular transfer if your travel speed is too slow, but when it's set right and your travel speed is right it's nearly a spray transfer. The globular transfer on that wire may just be the way it runs. Would like to see another video when you get more familiar with that wire.

You can get coated flux core, I also find storing the wire in an ammo dry box can help alot. Just close the box up in a warb dry area and I find that alone is normally good enough. Of course that does involve unloading the gun each time.

Just caught this video. I seem to have missed a few ones the last few years. Because of COVID, I can’t get more gas right now, so I’m doing more flux core than I normally would so as to preserve the gas as long as possible for where I really need it. Pretty much out of argon too, so TIG is out for now. I’m going to buy a roll of this. It seems very useful.

I'm glad i found this video. It shows how well the results can be using Stainless flux core. I was trying to use this exact wire on my 110v 135a mig and was getting terrible results. And my welder should be fine going by the wire manufacturers specifications. Afterwards i found out i had to set it up as a Decp instead of Decn like usual with regular flux core. Worked much better! Now i just need to improve my welding skills. Thanks for this video!

Wow, A lot of questions when it comes to welding. Different machines, direct current, A/C current, gas mixtures, flux or no-flux, penetration, looks. I guess I like the old days, even McDonalds only had three items on the menu once upon a time. I was there. I started with a crank-top Lincoln on the farm and what ever stick we had laying around, but step-dad and grandad neither knew how to weld. I am reminded of this when looking at burns in the crook of my elbow and once between the big toe welding upside down under a disc & tennis shoes.

As far as I can tell, there are other flux core wires for stainless from the major welding manufacturers, but they all seem to spec gas too, so are presumably used in what's called "dual shield" welding... I haven't found any others that say they are to be used without gas... About $30 a pound, so obviously if you do a lot of stainless, it would be best to get a bottle of gas for your MIG welder... But if you only have a wirefeed welder or are only doing small amounts of stainless work, seems like it would be an excellent solution. Price goes down a bit if you are buying a lot. They have 3 or 4 grades of it. If anyone knows of a similar no-gas flux core wire for stainless, or has other info on this product, please post it here!

Blue Demon is just a label.. they don't manufacture any consumables themselves. The "ball" at the tip of the wire has to do with how the current flow reacts with the stainless steel strip material used to manufacture the wire. Current flow is much different with s.s. compared to Fe steel.

DCEP??? Really??? I've always thought that flux core "must" be run DCEN. This is an amazing break through if it is a standard welding process with this wire. Thanks for the video, and I'm going to have to try this on my Lincoln 140HD, yes a Home Depot machine. Will it work as well at 0.025 as well as the 0.035, with varying voltages/amp draws, and at what arc length? You used this flux core wire as a "push" too, (Slag = Drag???) Holy Cow! I'd have thought you'd get MEGA "porosity" from the slag build-up from in front of the puddle. I'd like to hear more about this wire, and it's abilities.

I was taught that DCEN was for preheating the Flux on self shielded wires to get proper slag coverage. Maybe this was wrong.... Let me know because I'm really curious now.

it looks like a globular weld transfer. does that change where you could use it? could it be used for open root light tube. like exhaust pipe.

The ball on the end is a process known as globular transfer as opposed to spray transfer it usually happens at voltages below 30 volts spray transfer happens at higher voltages. I've seen spray happen at under 30 volts but that is rare.

Hey Bob thanks for the great vids and education. I had a question, our company bought similar wire .035 and we have to weld 16 gauge tube shields on the HRSG boiler tubes. So we are in vertical. We wasted 3 hours trying to get the right settings and no luck. Even on our best attempt we could not get rid of excessive worm hole porosity. If you would not mind and maybe doing a video on settings for 16 gauge with SS FCAW-S it would be greatly appreciated or a simple reply would suffice. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Do you need to change the polarity on the welder to run Flux cored?

Bob, Thanks for trying something new and not having all the answers -------------yet. Great balls of fire, It looked pretty ugly coming off the end. But the bead seemed acceptable. I look forward more. Tim

Thanks Tim. I'm not scared to try and don't always have all the answers. Yeah, it was a little strange looking running it but overall, it came out ok.
