Stalker is a person who visits and explores abandoned places. Our first February video from Spain this year was dedicated to new buildings in Punta Prima, although we lived in Mil Palmeras at the time. In March we moved to Benidorm, and in April, as fate would have it, we settled on Punta Prima. The drab grey panel houses I told you about in that video are being built. The frames are gradually being covered in panels. As has become customary on the first day of vacationing in a new place on the Costa Blanca, we walk to the left. We explore what is on our left. We walk along the sea past the Nautilus restaurant, famous since 1975 and very popular here. Just behind the restaurant begins a narrow path along the sea towards Torrevieja, on the left of which spreads the property of Ferris Alto, a private farm owned by Ferris Hills. This company was founded in 1998 to manage the assets of the family holding Murcia Vela, which, among other things, is a shareholder and manager of the Hotel Bali in Benidorm. The area of the farm, approximately 10 hectares. Ferris Hills used to own not only the palm grove but also the entire coastline. On 9 November 2013 the grove consisted of 340 palm trees, of which around 120 specimens are over 12 metres high, amongst which there are specimens that reach 20 metres in height. On 23 May 2016, the company announced that it had ceded 10,890 square metres of land to the Ferris Alto farm to Costas following the completion of the demarcation of the border between land and sea in the municipality of Torrevieja, carried out by the Ministry of the Environment. This formed a pedestrian route from the Nautilus restaurant to Los Naufragos beach. Afterwards, Ferris Hills built a concrete wall with netting around the perimeter. The company said it wanted to continue developing the farmland by restricting access to it for better care and conservation. "Until now," says Ernesto Ruiz, the company's CEO, "there has been unfenced land and people have continued to move around freely, abusing the area and disturbing its own nature and the nature of its ecosystems. So what is hiding behind the CEO's pretty words and the ugly concrete wall? A lot of pine seedlings, some palm trees and fruit trees are planted. But, regular maintenance of the area is not visible. There is a lot of rubbish, cut and dried out palm branches for a long time, abandoned outbuildings, a pond, and a windmill. Apparently, the company has decided to mothball the farm until better times. A fence to their rescue. Today we walk to the right. Along the way we meet the sales offices of the main protagonist of our video, Gomendio Constructores. Their billboards are all over Punta Prima. And this is what a house for 750 thousand euros looks like. The owner's car. We pass artifacts next to the construction of the Poseidonia residence and a mysterious ancient arched structure at the headland of Punta Prima. Here are also the ruins of previous residences. A rainbow on the ground points us in the right direction. We pass the coastal villas and climb the promenade. Punta Prima is as crowded and positive as ever. The beach is small but cosy. With a good entrance to the sea. Behind it is again a fenced off area and some strange buildings in the distance. About thirty years ago, on November 30th 1990, sector D-1 (today's vacant lot) was classified by the General Urban Plan of Orihuela as land to be developed for human habitation. A detailed development plan was drawn up and approved by the Orihuela City Council on the 2nd of May 1995. And on July 30th, 2002, the Municipal Plenum finally approved the Partial Plan for Sector D-1 landscaping. Sector D-1 has been divided into two execution units: UE1, which has been fully executed, and UE2, whose integral program was finally approved by the Municipal Plenum in February 2007, together with the urbanization project. After that Gomendio Constructors, familiar from our video as the builder of the "Dreary Grey Panel Houses" on Punta Prima, carried out road works, utilities, sewage, water and electricity works. But, the work was stopped later that year. Perhaps the project was hindered by the economic crisis, perhaps also by local protests, which demanded that the plan undergo an environmental impact assessment. During the urbanisation phase, the presence of protected species of flora and fauna was noticed, leading to its stoppage in 2007. The project itself was ambitious, though it has always been referred to as a partial plan. According to the aforementioned Partial Plan UE2, Gomendio Constructors will be able to develop, suitable for development, an area of 263 thousand m², of which 64 % is for residential use and 36 % for hotel use.
