Stalling While Driving Troubleshooting Guide | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 | Honda Accord | Honda Odyssey |

Hi everyone!
Been a while since I got a video up but here it is! This troubleshooting guide will help out any of you with a 1999 2000 or 2001 Honda Accord or Odyssey that is stalling while driving. I go through four possible causes by order of likelihood and cost to diagnose and replace. Please don't hesitate to ask questions below or suggest what to go over next!

Very helpful! Can’t really apply this knowledge myself as I drive a ferrari, though I can see how this would be useful for individuals who drive less expensive cars

Great video. Today my 1999 Honda Odyssey stalled right on curve that was going up a short, but steep incline. 77 degree weather outside..windows down..I was going about 30 mph. I tried to crank it without any pressure on the gas pedal. Normally, in the mornings, she cranks on first try without touching gas pedal. So, flashers on sitting trying to re-crank...it would turn over and start for a couple of seconds, then die. Then, I held gas pedal to the floor and she cranked better but stalled right away. After approximately 40 turns of the key, she cranked up again and I was off down the road. She also had a full tank of gas...I will try your suggestions! Thanks for the information!!!

@@frankandfrankauto Hey guys, Today I ordered the Ignition switch. I will pick it up for my mechanic tomorrow. I also put on a new main relay, but that didn't help anything. We'll see if it cranks in the morning. It usually runs fine at the first starting .The Honda dealer did say that they had a recall on the Ignition switch, but recall has been closed. Only the airbag issue is available at Honda. Keep your fingers crossed. My mechanic can't get me in until Monday.

Thank you. Having an issue with stalling while driving on a 99 Odyssey. I will be checking everything you suggested. CEL is on, but only for insufficient EGR flow. My first thought was crank position sensor, but no codes related to that. The problem is very intermittent (once or twice a week). The car belongs to a friend, so not sure about whether it happens while driving over a rough surface. Again thanks for the informative video.

Is it P0401? Stalling and code could be unrelated.

My 2002 NGV/CNG civic dies while at a stop. Once I replaced the battery it seldom happens. However, it is a pain in the butt and need advice.

I have never actually seen a natural gas vehicle so my advice may not be as helpful! Very weird that battery replacement helped... my initial guess was timing (belt) issues or crank sensor. It sounds like what is common with early 2000's Kias, which is most often Crank Position Sensor but can be caused by poor timing or needing valve adjustment. Any codes at all?
