A quick translation of the lyrics: (T/L notes: "Haavanlehti" is the leaf of an aspen tree, but "haava" means wound, so that play on words doesn't really translate. Also, the Finnish word for "knee" can also mean "generation", so there's a double meaning with that.) The Thread of Life The boy fell on his path To lie next to the roots of his father With an aspen leaf on his knee He bled his gore I'm not going to stitch up the wound I'll get up and heal From it's edges the wound closes I'll get up and heal I'm not going to stitch up the wound I'll get up and heal The knee of the boy gets stronger As I get up again on the journey From a cavity of the hollow ground To his fathers voice most loved Got to dig up an echo For the rest of his life in his journey Find your thread of life and put it in a needle Stitch together the scraps of your joy If the thread breaks then it breaks You won't find a stronger one in death I'm not going to stitch up the wound I'll get up and heal From it's edges the wound closes I'll get up and heal I'm not going to stitch up the wound I'll get up and heal The knee of the boy gets stronger As I get up again and get on the journey on the journey on the journey

Nice work. Polvi pojasta paranee is a really tricky one to translate. Maybe it should be taken more like generation as you refered on the top. Meaning is like "the next generation will be better than this one". In a sense you could think it like the son is better version of his father...

Stam1na is all about progressive metal. They do a bunch of heavy and non-heavy stuff. One of the thing they've been good at is mixing great melodies with choruses. They have way more heavier songs. One of them, like someone else pointed out here is Panzerfaust. One thing for sure is that they do look like happy folks.

Not the heaviest stam1na but surely something to sing along. Stam1nas old few years back released album Viimeinen Atlantis (last Atlantis) is something you should check out. One of the best albums as a whole in sense of lyrics and music! Something I often go back to when I have time to listen an album from beginning to an end.

IMO This is very much a song that might not work very well for people not knowing the finnish language. It's basically all about the lyrics while being a fairly simple song but I guess the chorus can be catchy. Others have already recommended some solid songs but here are some of the ones in their early albums that made them so big in Finland. I'll list them with a translation and a little description what to expect: 1. Stam1na - Kadonneet Kolme Sanaa (2005), Their first "hit" song from their first album, thrashy and heavy with a nice guitar riff. 2. Stam1na - Uudet Kymmenen Käskyä (2006), From their second album in which they went to a more proggy direction, although stam1na implements some proggy elements in almost all of their albums. Somewhat similar to Hammasratas on the singing department, very fast singing/growling/shouting whatever you want to call it. 3. Stam1na - Hammasratas (2008), From their third album Raja in which they went to a darker/heavier direction both musically and lyrically. This song is very fast paced and most of the native finns couldn't understand anything he sings, so the language wouldn't matter too much in this song. It's a killer song IMO even without having any idea what the lyrics mean, but the lyrics are actually quite genious as usual with any Stam1na song. 1. Is probably the easiest to approach as might be the 3. depending on whether you like a full blown madness from the beginning. Stam1na is one of those bands that doesn't really have any terrible songs, but if you plan on doing a new stam1na video in the future I'd go for the older ones just because you have only reacted to the 2010's stam1na for now. Many consider their first 3 or 4 albums to be the golden era, though I don't personally necessarily agree with that.

If you like heavy Stam1na, you should do their song "Panzerfaust" next :) Stam1na started out as a Thrash metal band, but they evolved to be a more progressive mix of slow, even rockish songs and also very fast paced Thrash/Death/Black metal -type of songs. They usually have both types on every record, and some songs switch between the two.

Since you seem to like Stam1na, you definitely should check out Mokoma. Very similar to this, maybe a bit more straightforward thrash with mixes of death metal. They just released a new album and it's great like their older counterparts. Top 2 bands from Finland that sing in Finnish in my opinion. Check out "Kepeät mullat" ("Light dirts", referring to a phrase that Finns say when someone dies and they want to say farewell in a kind way. Similar to Rest in peace) or "Kuollut, kuolleempi, kuollein" (Dead, more dead, the most dead). Also check out Stam1na's "Panzerfaust", it's much more heavier than the songs you've heard so far.

For me every Stam1na albums have been the same, you cannot like it first time. It opens up everytime more and more. There is so much different elements that just keeps on popping up time after time. It really is a counterpart for generic compressed radio stuff. Lyrics are not really too clear for us Finns either. They are really cryptic and weird sometimes. Each album seems to have some theme. Like for example viimeinen atlantis was about climate change quite much. A lot of song is also about human rights in general. Also all kind on hospital related subjects seems to be involved in many songs. I think at least one of the guys is a psychoterapeutist or something :) Finnish language cannot be google translated since the grammar is so different to any language. In general Finns can speak English at least somehow. It is teached in school on first classes already and we don't do any dubbing for TV shows.
