My brother works with Stamkos' aunt in Toronto and he's spoken with her about the possibility of a move. It's highly unlikely. According to his aunt, Stamkos LOVES Tampa. The team, the city, the fans. All of it. He's more likely to take a hometown discount to stay than he is to chase the dollars elsewhere. And quite frankly, I don't know why the Habs would want him. He's in his mid-30's and this team isn't a Stamkos away from winning anything. The only mid-30's guy I would be okay with the Habs acquiring would be Crosby. I'd love to see him finish his career as a Hab. Like Stamkos, I don't see it happening but it would be nice.

@@caperboy1169 Wouldn't it slow down the development of the Habs long term mission? Don't they need to ask their guys to fill in the available top 6 positions. It is interesting though, As Cauf could play with Dach. Slav could learn to play with a true sniper. But then you would be telling Cauf he isn't good enough. I'm against the idea but your right, there are reasons.

Would love to see Stamko’s in Montreal, But I would rather the Habs sign an FA like DeBrusk and make a trade for a player like Necas or Kakko players like that we should be targeting for now… at some point we will have to sign some veteran players with experience like Stamkos or others or this team will end up like Ottawa… I think this summer the Habs will go after a player like David Perron and then Sign Jake DeBrusk and those will be the Habs “big” FA signings just my prediction and DeBrusk, Perron are really good fits…

Yes of course the Canadiens should look to get Stamkos BUT at what cos though! I'm not saying a player like Stamkos comes cheap but I don't think he's that expensive in terms of a long term contract.

100$ no he would not be the difference maker we need and would not get 40 goals as a hab either.We need to build from a young low cost perspective as that would give us cap space and leverage for many years to follow around 6 years per young player.If we feel we are a legit contender maybe go all in for a rental or two but you can't give ridiculous contracts to aging vets.

Don’t think Stamkos his leaving a warm climate. Why would he at this stage of his career. How about Sidney Crosby. One year left at 8 million, and he was a Montreal fan growing up. Don’t think he is happy with the situation in Pittsburgh right now and if we could get him for 3 or 4 years that would be awesome. Sid could still bring it and joining this team would be exciting for him and us. He can walk at the end of next year for nothing or we could give them a late first round and a top defensemen. Imagine Sidney with Dach and Lindstrom, Eiserman, or Catton? Sid would be the ideal addition. If he plays for more years we could offer keep him a position at the end as a consultant?

But if we add Zegras and stamkos are we not borderline contenders?? Suzuki Caulfield slafkovsky stamkos Dach Zegras. Lindstrom Newhook Roy. Trade Mesar Beck Harris 2nd for Zegras make a run at a cup for 2yrs whole still rebuilding with out giving up too much in a trade. We could afford all this.
