So I just watched the whole two hours of this video. Well, I let it play while I was stamping, anyhow. I picked up a few interesting things, even though I've been collecting a long time. You can always learn something new! Thanks for sharing the way you enjoy this hobby.

Kyle: I'm an old timer and a collector since the Dark Ages. Nevertheless, I get a kick out of your stuff, in large part because of your pleasant demeanor and your enthusiasm (a rare quality nowadays) and your learning uptake. I download with Wondershare to watch when I want and what I want. Tough for me to hang in for two hours, but I did on this one. It needs to be spread far and wide. Congrats. (I stopped your video midstream and ordered the microscope just for the heck of it. Another tool is a Brother P-Touch labeler. Different models and prices all over the place. I have PT-M95. Your imagination can run wild on how to use it. BTW, I like the second-party labels better.) Take care. Gene

A pleasure to hear that Gene! Thank you for your kind words and support! Cool to hear you bought the microscope, I have on occassion found it to be extremely useful. Dang, I totally forgot to mention my DYMO labelwriter 450... I totally agree a label printer is worth having without a doubt!! I knew there would be things I forgot, ahah. Thanks again.

Kyle~ As a beginner to stamp collecting I find your channel to be right up my ally. This morning I learned a few more helpful tips one of which is the dental gum probe! I actually stopped filling my stock pages due to the frustration of the lifting so as to slide the stamp in, and just like that you solved my problem! I’m always inspired to get working on my collection after watching your videos. It helps also that you speak in layman terms regarding philately. I checked my computer paper and the cover says acid free right on it, in small print of course, never even took that into consideration. Maybe you can answer this, I have boxes upon boxes of stamps in glassine envelopes and I wonder just how long I can keep them that way until I can organize and get them into the album’s? Also, I’m delaying the process because there are so many from all over the world and having inherited them want to do it right. I just don’t know where to start. It’s debilitating being unsure of ones self. I wish you could make house calls lol~ I’m hoping you can answer my question and possibly help get me started organizing. I really appreciate you Kyle and btw you have a great smile! You obviously utilized the gum probe before it became a helpful stamp tool! Keep up the good work my friend and for god’s sake stay in front of the camera more often 💯~ Donna

HAH! Glad the gum probe will help you out... I was all about stock books when sorting my grandfather's stamps and actually found myself frustrated just like you lifting those stupid flaps. When I mentioned the acidity of computer paper something in my head was saying that it is actually safe, thanks for checking, most are I believe. For the stamps in glassines I would say you can keep them in there as long as you need just as long as they aren't horribly yellowed or browned. If you had that acidity pen you could also simply check them with that to make sure they aren't doing any damage to your stamps. I completely understand your situation having lots of stamps from all over. My grandpa's stamps were barely even organized at all... After much consideration I decided the first step simply has to be to organize them before even attempting to catalog any. I ended up organizing them by country first into glassines(hours on end of sorting). Then put the countries into A-Z order. Next I bought the catalogs I needed and began looking up the stamps in each packet one by one. I will say that when you pull a country and begin the cataloging process, I found it useful to sort each packet by stacking duplicates and spreading them all out on my desk in little piles. Basically each step of the way I would be as organized as possible. Work your way through them, one glassine at a time. When you sort a countries stamps, expect to be bouncing around the catalog becuase you won't know what year or number each stamp is until after it has been cataloged. Glassines really are great and/or stock cards too so you can write the info about each stamp and then order them correctly after identifying them all. All of the work is usually done by the time I go to put them into any album. Putting them in the album is actually the fun and easy part because all of the legwork has been done already. Part of the joy of all this is bringing order to the chaos. I've sorted so many collections into my cabinets and it is a good feeling!

Nice video ! Love the part "I like the Smell of the lighter fluid " lol . Be careful with that stuff man ;-) Also I use stock pages for Half my collection . Especially when its not one of My specialized collections , I use Printed album pages for the Special collections . Also never heard of the PH pen , scary thought that some of my pages might be acidic . Thanks for the video again !

Thanks! Lol! I don't use the lighter fluid too much 😋. Yeah, the pen has been a nice tool, it gives that extra peice of mind.

I store my stamps in glassines at no more than two stamps per envelope then catalog them and put in a glassine box. Albums to me are too expensive. I also stick with one approval company so I know what I am getting and can control the amount I get.

Tongs are for food, tweezers are the Anglo/Commonwealth way off defining the difference between what one uses for doing things with ones eyebrows, nose, or stamps, as opposed to food. Tweezers are also the term used for the small 'tongs' when removing thorns, wasp or bee-stings. Love your work Kyle. Cheers from BrizVegas, Qld, Australia. J//

Greate Vid! What is the benefit of using glassine envelopes rather than Polypropylene Storage Bags? Glassine is more expensive and seems to be worse long term? Can you answer?
@KylesStamps
@KylesStamps 5 ай бұрын
I don't think there is any advantage besides maybe their minor rigidity which would make them easier to file neatly perhaps.

Incredible tips, thank you! Saw you using a digital catalog in another video. Do you find them necessary? Where did you did a digital version?
@KylesStamps
@KylesStamps Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The digital catalogs are the only ones I own. It was just a choice I made when getting into the hobby. Scottonline has the digital catalog I use although they currently don't offer the same one time purchase version I have... you have to pay for a subscription now. If I were to buy a online catalog now I would be torn about paying a constant subscription. I will say there are featues like search and constant updates that you obviously wouldn't get with a paperback, so I prefer it.

Another funny cultural difference between my dear old yank cousins, like you, and the British Commonwealth is that when you say "period" we all think of female menstruation and chuckle, we know that you guys mean the end or stop, but it is still very funny to 'us'. Cheers J//

If a stamp still has full perfect gum I use a mount, if it has imperfect gum and has been hinged in the past it gets hinged. Embalming a stamp with a value of 10 cents and less is absurd and yet many of todays collectors do it.
