OH BOY, I just blew $3500 on this HUGE 7 carton stamp collection from Apfelbauminc.com - Years ago I bought a similarly sized accumulation from them but most of it wasn't organized. This collection is actually cataloged by Scott number and neatly organized! In this video I open the first box and get a general idea of what the collection will be like. So far, I love it. I'm not even sure if I want to do anything to change most of these albums except maybe to get the stamps out of the manilla stock pages since they turn acidic over time and can damage the stamps.
Thanks for watching! Many more videos will be coming where we inspect this collection! Like and subscribe if you enjoy my content!

Looks like a bazillion cheaper type stamps. Apfelbaum is a great place to buy stamps,if you attend,the auctions in person. The describers and estimators are very very optimistic people!

I am a stamp addict like you and have spent a fortune on buying boxes of stamps. They are piled 3 high on the bed in my spare room and cover every room except bathroom and kitchen! Even my own bedroom has all floor space covered with boxes 3 high! It would drive anyone else crazy but I am in love with stamps and collect everything although I have printed albums for all British Commonwealth up to 1970 and Foreign up to 1936 with spaces to fill for every stamp. I am only at about 20% complete but that is still an awful lot of stamps some of which are expensive. So I totally get the excitement you feel when looking at mixed collections. Recently I have bought mint collections of single countries up to 1936 to try and fill some gaps. My most recent purchases have been of Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Cuba and Mexico as well as a complete Unmounted Mint collection of the British Commonwealth 1948 Royal Silver Wedding omnibus issue which was definitely expensive but the stamps of which are very hard to find in general mixed collections. I am trying to curb my spending a little nowadays but my addiction makes that hard. Haha.

Nice accumulation of world stamps. Due to todays philatelic market, I am not a huge fan of collections like that, but that´s just me. To get a neat evaluation, check the Chinese and U.S. part first and you will get a first impression of the real market value. Anyways, this collection will generate hours of fun for a real philatelist. 👍Greets from GER, U.

This is a nice collection and I assume you will have a lot of fun looking through it. The collector was very ambitious and loved stamps. Otherwise he would not catalogized so much. I also collect worldwide, do not care if I will get complete and I sell all the stuff I do not like personally or which is too much and I own. The selling process is also fun, same as the buying process. In the past I bought several things from ebay, but the last years I changed to auctions. Especially for better stamps you get better quality, they are cheaper and you get less forgeries. But there are still more than enough forgeries in stamp collections. On the other side with the years I got better in discovering them. By the way: I have an envelope with the 4 Tonga stamps (your 9P heart) and the set before from 1963. They are all cheap, but you do not find them too often. I like these sets a lot.

Yeah, he definitely had a passion for the hobby. I just got a new shelf and lined all of his albums out, wow, he made a lot of them. It must have taken years. I do pretty much the same thing as you, I keep want I want and sell what I don't. Happy stamping!

Looking closely at what you show, this seems to be a hodge podge accumulation rather than a collection. I see significant mixed counties in most of the stock books, and mostly what we used to call packet material. Shaka Zulu would say, "something shiny". I say colorful, but if you paid $3500. for those, you paid way too much .

Sometimes you just have to go for it! Stamp collectors have no control, you just have that stamp, album, collection, price is not an option. Good luck with this collection, looking froward to a bunch of great videos. Am I seeing a lot of Grab Bags combing up here? Enjoy these kind of videos, thank you for that.

Wow! I cannot wait to see what is in all those boxes. Regarding the Pennsylvania stamps. Whenever you sold a piece of property the Federal Government charged a tax and put stamps on your deed. That is what the Documentary stamps in the Revenue section of Scott are. In the 60's the Federal Government stopped collecting the tax and the states started collecting it. Each state printed stamps to put on the deed. That is what those are. You still pay the tax today but they no longer use stamps they just write the tax amount on the top of the deed. I noticed that one of your binders said Angola. I am looking for #300. It is the last stamp that I need to complete Angola and I have been looking for it for 35 years. If you have a mint/unused copy I would definitely be interested and will trade you way over value. Also the US booklet. I do not collect booklets but last year I started collecting Mr Zip blocks of 4 so I am interested in anything with Mr Zip on it. Please let me know.

Following my previous comment I d be interested in seeing a video where you talk about why you prefer worldwide like this versus completing the collections you prefer i.e spending more money on rare handful of stamps so you can complete a country or year. The rationale behind why buying several boxes as once you have gone through them you then have to sort all and that would spread your time thin so how do you decide on what to focus on? And what would come next? Would you wait until all are sorted? Are you going to sell some of those once sorted? I d like to hear more about this
@KylesStamps
@KylesStamps 10 ай бұрын
I like worldwide stamps in general and simply enjoy browsing through them. I learn about all kinds of different things along the way. It's all just fun to me and I am not very critical about how I do it or why. I keep what I like and tend to sell the rest. I'm not sure if I favor any specific country over another and it isn't very important to me to complete any collection in particular. I just go with the flow and whatever I feel like doing is what I do. I realize lots of collectors have specific goals they hope to achieve or collections they want to complete. People might scoff at what I choose to do or call it amateur and I'm just fine with that. The way I collect might seem like madness, which, in a way it is. I do like the idea of one day using an inventory program to tally my more valuable items. Thankfully, this new collection seems sorted and organized so it doesn't seem like I will have to spend an absurd amount of time doing so. The last collection I bought was 7 boxes of random mayhem and I pretty much cherry picked through it then sold the remainder as worldwide grab bags. As I go through these 40+ albums in this new collection, I will decide which ones to keep and will likely sell the rest.

Hello Kyle, I am just recently looking into collecting stamps again after stopping in 1990. I actually started collecting in 1979 with basic US and world stamps. I was wondering how you were able to purchase this lot of stamps for $3500 when it said $11,750 on their website? Thank you for sharing and indeed these stamps are absolutely beautiful. Steve
@KylesStamps
@KylesStamps 8 ай бұрын
Welcome back to the hobby! The $11,750 is the collections estimated net value according to them... Honestly, I ignore that mostly these days and just consider the collection worth what they actually charge in reality.

Reminds me of my world wide collection, I tend to use Vario pages for mint and manila for used. I would say why not just keep it as is?
@KylesStamps
@KylesStamps 7 ай бұрын
I could, but manilla pages are acidic so I prefer not to keep stamps in them long term. Also, I prefer vario so you can see the whole stamp without having to handle them. All personal preference I suppose.

What do you think about the future of stamp collecting as an investment?
@KylesStamps
@KylesStamps 7 ай бұрын
Truthfully, I feel like it is a bleak future if you are specifically collecting stamps for a return on investment. Most values have dropped since the mid 80's for example. Every now and then I see some in the catalog that have actually gone up, although usually not significantly. If I were actually thinking about investing to make money I'd go towards silver or gold bullion, personally. Historically, gold has always simply gotten more valuable over time. Just my thoughts :)
