I always enjoy watching your videos, though I know it can be a challenge doing them, when you have to attend to the needs of a young family. Just as you correctly identified the British stamps that were mis-placed under India; I noticed one placed under Russia that should be in a different place. The dull red stamp towards the bottom on the right page,at 4:44, is Azerbaijan #21. Whatever stamps are in that collection, the early US stamps make it worthwhile. Depending on die; paper; grill or other varieties; some can be quite expensive. Postmarks can make a big difference in values. Aside from monetary value, early US stamps reflect history and there are many interesting stories about them. For instance, black stamps often portray mourning. Issued in 1863, the Black Jack mourned the tearing apart of the nation and loss of life because of the Civil War. All stamps issued before the Civil War were declared invalid, so that the Confederacy could not sell the vast amount of US stamps that they held, which would help to finance the rebellion. The 1869 pictorial set, from which there are two stamps on the following page, was very unpopular in its day. It seems that the public was not ready to accept any US stamps which did not honor a deceased American. The last straw came when inverts appeared. I understand that some people who found stamps with an invert, went back to the Post Office to demand that they get their money back. The Post Office went back to issuing stamps honoring the deceased, until the Columbians came out. The Columbians were well received, paving the way for the US to issue more commemoratives. There is a lot of interesting history with old US stamps.

It is always nice to grab new albums or older books to go through. I have been given a few of these older books by friends of the family who do not collect and don't want to throw them away. It's a lot of fun to look at the old hinge and fill albums, the books are so beautiful when you have many stamps on a page showing the colour variety. I have been delving more into Eastern Europe during it's time under socialism, it's a lot of enjoyment for me. I mostly tend to collect FDCs / covers now, but I have lots of mnh / cto examples of sets from the 40-80s that's got a ton of different topics and themes. I have found one dealer who has every stamp and postcard variant from Poland 1960-89, which is just insane to think about! There was so many stamps made mostly for export to other republics / the west at the time, to me it is so amazing he has every postcard as many of those stamps are unique to the card and some are very low mintage. I enjoy watching these sorts of videos, I think you did rather alright for this purchase. The Chinese section is very nice, I don't collect US stamps but I think that couple full pages look great.

I'm 54 and as I type this I started collecting about 3 weeks ago. I found a bag of stamps in an office bin I Clean for. When I opened the bag I was hooked straight away when I saw the art work on a Harry S Trueman Stamp. I've started watching KZbin for information and your channel is awesome.

There were some uncommon stamps included. Close checking might turn up some relative rarities.

I am going to be subscribing to your channel because I need all the help I can get. I have my great, great, uncles stamp collection and every stamp is pre 1955 with some from the late 1800's early 1900's. No idea what they are worth but am prepared to put in the time to do the research. I think your channel will help me a lot. Cheers from Australia.

Awesome video - Going through a massive stamp collection right now, from all manner of places. I've gotta say, this has got to be the most complex collecting niche. Learning about Watermarks, Grills, Perforations, Errors, Postmarks...so many things. Can you point me towards the video you talk about the "Capped 2" - Ive about 50 2 cent washingtons to work through and I've found a few of those. Thanks!

I made a similar trade years ago. An early $200 item from New Zealand for 10 pages of Switzerland, which was loaded with many $10+ items. If you enjoy big the albums, you did well and you have several better US and a fe we better old foreign to add to your collection!

I miss buying stamp lots. I've noticed a big up in sellers on EBAY who know little about stamps or just scammers asking crazy prices. A seller was asking $12 for a 1c Jefferson listed as unused , clearly used, cancelled and stained. They also were selling a "rare" 2009" Lincoln cent for $100's of dollars and $600 for a regular 1976 US nickel. Their "best deal" was a ruined Um Al Quiwain stamp for around $5. Or was it the 2 pr socks for $50?

Where is the cheapest place to buy stamps? I got into collecting, and am getting my 3 young autistic sons into it because it will help them focus and possibly learn some history.
