Ever use liquid release with liquid antique agent mopped on later? The nice thing is you don't have to wash powder off. Just saw cut, rinse it and mop on your second color. Saves time washing and cleaning up the mess of powder release. Not to mention you won't be blowing out coal colored boogers for the next few days, or listening to your wife complain about the coal stained shower floor!
@MikeDayConcrete5 жыл бұрын
We've tried it a little. We're just more comfortable using powder release. If we're stamping inside where it's hard to clean, we'll do it that way.

Mike- I am a new pool owner and about ready to do our stamped patio surrounding the pool. I have some questions after watching your videos. You mentioned clean up of the pool and my questions are related to this part. Is the pool pump just recirculating bypassing filter during the process? Have you ever had a problem with the color staining the pool (fiberglass pools)? Any words of advise?
@MikeDayConcrete5 жыл бұрын
It's using the filter. The release powder doesn't soak into the water, it just floats on the surface so it just builds up in the skimmer where you can scoop it out with a cup. None of that dust went through the filter on this pool. I've never had a problem with the color staining the pool. If it doesn't wash off with dawn detergent, I use clorox wipes and it comes right off.

Does that pool have a double liner track that the forms snap into. Also do you strip the pool edge forms the same day like with mortex or stagmirer poly forms to sponge the edge I have a pool reno coming up and thinking about using concrete counter top solutions pool z forms because of the reusability less waste etc. How straight do they stay on the straight walls without using tie wires like the other brands . Any info would be awsome watch your vids thanks I'm a 30 pool builder from fla building in NC now be safe peace ✌

Mike, you ever do anything with exposed aggregate? I’m in Wisconsin and just curious how that holds up on a driveway with the winters and if customers end up being satisfied with it. I’ve subscribed and would love to soak in anything you’re willing to teach. Thank you!
@MikeDayConcrete5 жыл бұрын
I've done only a few exposed aggregate. There's not much call for it here in Maine. It would hold up just fine if you use the right sealer. I like using RadonSeal for my exterior driveway sealer. Seals the concrete from the inside out, not just a topical sealer.
@c_b8s45 жыл бұрын
I'm not Mike, but exposed ag is great for exterior concrete constantly exposed to harsh weather. Most ice melts cause the finished top of slabs to spall, dust, or flake off which in turn exposes aggregate meant to hold things together, not look nice. Exposed aggregate no longer has a finished top to fail because you washed the top layer of cement paste off in order to expose the aggregate. It also maintains its aesthetic appeal because only aggregate previously chosen is mixed into the entire concrete slab as course aggregate which is what you see in your final product. Lastly, exposed ag gives aggressive texture in icy conditions.

Thank you for sharing! I’m just learning about stamping. Do you guys ever have to do the clean up, detailing, and saw cutting the same day as your concrete pour if it’s really hot out? Does textured stamp vs a stamp with more joint impression/texture like random stone affect if you should clean up/saw cut the same day vs the next on a hot day?

Great videos! We do hardscape and decorative concrete in Minnesota. Couple questions. Do you guys prefer powder over liquid release? Have you ever used a Lura roller screed? We’re looking in to one because as you said it’s very hard to find good screeders. Wondering if it would be worth the money.
@MikeDayConcrete4 жыл бұрын
We do mostly use powder release. I haven't used a roller screed. Screeding for us is quite easy, if it wasn't I would look into it though.

The finish has an overlap line from the mat that your finishers do not take out :/ When pulling a mat up, the overlapped mat should be stamped along the edge to remove a line made from the first mat that is picked up. Antique-it will also give you a clear two-tone look without sacrificing the health and wellness of your crew. Unlike powdered release. Yikes
@MikeDayConcrete4 жыл бұрын
The line is just in the powdered release. It isn't in the concrete.

These guys are not troweling the concrete to seal it
@MikeDayConcrete5 жыл бұрын
Right on! Just mag float is enough.
@c_b8s45 жыл бұрын
I hear this a lot. No air engrained concrete with an air content higher than 5% should be trowels. That means anything outside. Do you trowel your sidewalk to seal the top prior to broom finish? Just wondering, because the broom finish opens the top pores of the sidewalk up again defeating the purpose of troweling. Please keep in mind also we are talkin about stamped concrete that has a solvent-based sealer protecting the top.
@cheshstyles5 жыл бұрын
@@c_b8s4 my understanding is air entrained concrete should not be HARD troweled. I don't think troweling something at the end of the first pass, immediately prior to brooming has the same prohibitions as hard troweling. If just touching steel to the concrete made it spall, you would see the edges of mag'd then broomed slabs spall way worse than the middle (as they had been worked with steel edgers!) However, this is not the case. Additionally, the company I work for does trowel exterior, air entrained, Minnesota concrete and we do not have problems with spalling these broom finished slabs.
@c_b8s45 жыл бұрын
@@cheshstyles very true. I like to trowel sidewalks because it gives a slightly smoother finish in my opinion. In no way are you trying to seal the top off if you trowel the surface one time prior to broom finishing.
