And make sure it is the uncensored video version. Usually I say just listen to blank audio. Lyric videos are usually wrong - just listen to the words. And video versions are usually official, and thus censored or altered words/'clean version'. Often the video is inconsequential, anyway. Stan and the way I am are very worth watching the video. It substantially enhances the song.

One thing that people who grew up with Eminem being so big and popular will never really understand is what it was like to be an Eminem fan when he first came out. It was something you hid from people because it was sort of embarrassing. It was looked down on by everybody. To draw a comparison to something it was like being on reddit but you play fortnite. With all due respect (to the male) I believe that vanilla ice "up in the air" comparison was probably a common impression within your region, or high school, etc. But I know that where I grew up, and many other places, predominately black and mexican inner city communities as well, that was not the case. On the contrary, Eminem in my opinion had three core fanbases. The ones who loved him solely for his Slim Shady antics and crazy, wreckless abandon, clown stuff. My name is, etc. His singles that most got pushed at the time. A lot of these fans were kids. Which contributed to his disdain from the media. People who recognized that he was well ahead of his time, and arguably the best multiple-syllable rhyming/rhyme structuring artist out, and people who didn't fully appreciate or yet 'get' the complexity and depth of his structure and rhyme schemes, but did resonate with what he put out - IE: songs like Rock Bottom from his major label debut. That song on content alone is amazing. When you fully appreciate Rock Bottom's complex lyricism structurally/rhyme scheme wise? Wow. It is equally amazing x2. I love hearing your take, and her slightly different take. We all grow up in different bubbles. The internet helps us bridge these bubbles.

You really need to go back and react to the Slim Shady LP. There are a few of songs on there where he isn't Slim Shady and rapping funny and shows his talent lyrically, which has him surpassing Vanilla Ice by a mile (Rock Bottom, If I had, etc). Your wife is right, he proved he was for real in parts of that album then further proved it with the Marshall Mathers LP which "Stan" is on.

When he first came out, the only people who thought he was the next vanilla ice were people who didn't like white people in rap, and people who didn't know rap at all. Everyone else could tell he was his own thing. His first and second albums are by far the most respected out of his career. Not to say his other albums weren't amazing... except revival. People don't like revival.

'Stan' is touching stalkers problem, but this (LTS) song was directly caused by killing his friend...over some diss war. And clip, too, is quite...just AT POINT. I am what they call 'Metal head' myself with 90% of my playlist being dominated by years 1970-2000 (with exception of Tribute album for Dio and Stratovarius Visions/Destiny and some songs of Disturbed ), BUT halfly through sentiment, after all tantrum MGK did, I listened to some old Ems songs I respected when teenage (like White America, Mosh, Like Toy Soldiers and some)... and after ten years I see how much more than I thought at time they says...
