Stan Getz の最も Stan Getz らしい曲の一つだと思います。このむせび泣く様な音を聴いているだけで涙が出てきそうになります・・・。

This is one of the most beautiful soulful ballads that I have ever heard by Stan Getz. I had the good fortune of seeing him live in Albuquerque back in the 80s. Buy the 2 CD set on Verve - it is fantastic ! And such a fitting tribute to a great jazz artist who died only 3 months after this performance in Copenhagen.

Although a trumpet player, I have always listened to tenor players more than anything else. Of them all, Stan was my man. To me, his music was about love and beauty. I listened to this album before reading the liner notes. I was totally blown away by the transcendence (good word, KindOfBlueMan) of his playing. After reading the liner notes, I realized that this was Stan's goodbye to all of us, was so thankful for the gift, and so happy that his last work was in many ways, possibly his best.

I read somewhere that once Stan was diagnosed with cancer (liver and something else?) that he made an effort to make amends to those he felt he had done wrong or hurt. Having had a round of cancer myself, I know it does tend to get you to review your life. He always could play a beautiful melody, but this particular album IS special, perhaps for the reason you mention: that it was his goodbye to us. If anyone is new to Stan Getz, I highly recommend "People Time."

I found someone amazing once. Shared the deepest secrets of our souls as the moon turned crimson. She's gone now, never to return. Once my heart forgets her I will live again.

Today in a rare moment of delight away from the my work, I delighted in the languor that this song laid in front of my ears. A tale of nostalgia that reaches the brink of desperation but still clings to life. Who best to express this emotion that seems hold the weight of the world such as an Atlas of emotions than Stan Getz. His life parallels the sadness emanating from this songs chords but more importantly reveals an hidden desire to live, to grow, to breath and to love. I am grateful for all these artists who have spent their lives in search their own musical language not knowing that unbeknownst to most of us, they truly aimed to give a name, a sound, chord and notes to emotions which often surreptitiously inhabit our souls.

Stan's "voice" in that concert, and particularly in this beautiful song, is absolutely poignant. It sounds like a testament to me, as though Stan were telling us: "I'll be gone soon but here is my legacy to this world..." I've listened to it tens of times over the past 24 years and it still gives me chills all along.
