Yasuhito Mori really gets on pitch with his bass. A lot of bass players get very close to the pitch but they are not always there. But Yasuhito has such a solid sound no wonder Stan lets him play by himself.

Mori is excellent ! I hear a lot of Red Mitchell's influence in his solo( though not in his section work) He may have studied with Red for it was he, who recommended Yasuhito for this gig. Thanks for sharing!

Superb level of concentration! I imagine the amount of work to prepare this presentation (see the stack of papers on the piano). Inspiration doesn't fall from the sky!

I saw them live during this 1989 tour, in Strasbourg. The planned bassist was Georges Mraz, but as he was ill, he was replaced for the tour by the bassist of the opening band, Jimmy Smith trio, who was Yasuhito Mori. So during the tour, every day Mori played with both orchestras.

Mori is winning me over. One of my favorite standards. I loved when Stan performed this with J.J. Johnson!!

@guitarbuddy83 Nice to see another person appreciate Stan. Two albums I am sure you are familiar with is Sweet Rain and Cafe Montmartre. I had them in rotation for some time. If they slipped the radar..then I suggest you drop some cash and pick these up. You will not regret it!

Bravissimo.

Either the bass is tuned too loud or he should reduce his plucking impact whilst stan is playing. But the Bass playing technique is impressive though.

Was the timing of the bass inhibiting Stan’s playing? I heard it like the bass was not always playing in the place needed time wise.
