I'm 18 and just started volunteering at my local department trying to get certifications for my state and Just having been there a month it's crazy to see what the guys I hang around all the time now go through. Going through intro and ppe and learning about all the dangers and hazards of firefighting. But I'll tell you what just like these men and women it didnt deter me because for 2 months now I've been the happiest person serving a community even if it is just spraying water from the outside or getting information and taking vitals on patients it's been one hell of a experience and I cant wait to get through all my certifications so I can feel the full enjoyment of being a firemen

How is it going with your firefighting career?
@dfgiuy22 Жыл бұрын
Yeah man as Lindanwfirefighter4973 said, how is it going? I hope your at it still. We just tried to do a local town show and had to leave everyone but one bloke at the recruitment stand to go to a nonfatal but serious crash. It's hectic but I hope you hang in there. Volunteers are some of the hardest roles. We don't get paid and have to deal with the same jobs that most metro paid firefighters have to do. We don't have to do a lot of the medical stuff like you guys in the US. I'm glad. 6 years now and still learning without having to do medical training! I hope your still at it mate! Take care!

@@dfgiuy22 well it turned into an EMT Basic License and a full time job on the ambulance. Sadly due to politics inside of the volunteer department I was removed from the roster and am looking to go sign up at the next district over with my friend. I’ve been missing it more and more since January of this year.

@@dfgiuy22 trying to decide between fire and police right now. Most of our PD pays more so probably going to do that and work my way into a part time paid position at a local department.

I’m a 17 year old fire cadet, I love this job and while all the other kids are playing and living normally, I started at 15, got ride along certified at 16, and am planning to join straight out of high school. The disrespect and lack of appreciation the FD gets is insane. People never notice unless someone dies. Even on calls now I can’t help but think what would happen if I can’t come back or if I get hurt but someone has to do this. It isn’t about being fearless, it isn’t about glory or fame, it’s about getting recognition for the fact that we’re regular humans who step up to do an insurmountable task. I’m horrified each fire I go to, but I NEVER back down, I NEVER give up, because I know my family and my friends are waiting, worrying, and checking the news each time. I know that in there, even if I’m scared, my brothers and sisters need me to be strong, and more than that, there’s people in those fires who are depending on me as the sole balance between their life or their death. It’s not easy. It never was and it never will be, but it’s the right thing to do. We make mistakes and get hurt, but the people NEED us. So we won’t ever back down or shy away. My whole life I’ve lived across from a station, I know my calling and my heart goes out to my brothers and sisters. To those who want to join, don’t give up, don’t stop pushing, keep fighting. It gets hard. It seems impossible. YOU CAN DO IT. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF LIKE THEY BELIEVE IN YOU. Stay strong #Thinredline #Backthered #Redlivesmatter
