I retired after 33 years in the fire service. I do miss it. I never considered myself a hero. I took my job to heart and every call we ran we did our very best to lesson the impact on the people we came in contact with. We worked closely with law enforcement many times. I met many officers and the upmost respect for them. Great video.

Jim. Retired firefighter from the UK. Like you I always felt awkward when politicians praised us for just doing our job. Recently took my grandson to my old Fire Station. He loved it!! Modern fire engines are impressive!! Though talking to the crew, the manning is cut to the bone. I fear for our brothers and sisters.

First second and damn i choked up. Look at them immediatly stopping what their doing and running straight to danger. Firefighters are my heroes (first being Jesus of course), some kids grow up on power rangers, superman, batman, xmen, but me? I grew up loving the every day hero. They're united as a family, they know their duty and do everything in their power to help even if it costs them a limb, their job or their life. I came across a story where a fireman took a 3 year old burned victim to the hospital himself because the ambulance never showed up, but he's getting punished for it anyway. Such a thankless job *salutes* thank you all firefighters for your service and God protect you all and bless you for your bravery.

Firefighting is not even close to Two Steps From Hell if you treat it as a JOB and not an adrenaline rush or adventure. If people stopped portraying it as bravery and heroics, fewer firefighters would be injured and die. Tribute like this do nothing but hurt the profession.
@neptun28102 жыл бұрын
I think you are partially right about that. There is a Japanese quote, that I think kind of addresses the problem here: “Charging into the chaos of a battle, and getting slain in it, is very easy, and the first roughneck that comes along can do that. But true courage means to live when it is right to live, and only to die when it is right to die”. Needlessly risking your live is not brave, it is stupid. And that’s not what makes Fire Fighters heroes. They are the ones you call when the situation went far out of control, so they rush in and save the day and maybe your life. The nature of the job is basically that the Fire Service goes right to that spot where everyone else is running away from. The Siren and Light Signals basically tell everyone “get out of the way and get out of here, we take it from here”. So Fire Fighters are not heroes because they risk their own safety to safe you, but because they rush in to help you when no one else can. Because they save lives and prevent damage. A Firefighter that saves a victim from a burning, fully smoked house is a hero not because he puts his own live at some risk even with breath protection, but because he saves a live that no one else could possibly have saved.
@JB917102 жыл бұрын
@@neptun2810 You should write movie scripts. Fantasy movie scripts. You were right in the beginning, wrong at the end. For the most part, USA has fire players, not firefighters. All these videos Prove it if you ONLY, evaluate their performance without the fantasy you described. Here's a news flash that will show you how wrong you are. The FDNY is one of the worst departments in the world and my playlist on them proves that statement.
@neptun28102 жыл бұрын
@@JB91710 That's precisely what I said. You don't play with fire, you don't try to be tuff or seeking adventure, you stay focussed and do your job. Of course there are a lot of Firefighters who don't, but I was describing how Firefighters should act, not how every single one of them acts. Are you a Firefighter yourself or something like that? PS: There are indeed some dangerous mistakes in his video, look at the Clip from 02:08. Every Firefighter knows that on a burning Car the Gas tank might break and make burning gasoline spill all over a few square metres. These two guys stood far to close to the Car and got caught in the flames. Big mistake. Always keep your own safety in mind when dealing with Fire.
