How to install Stans Notubes tire system.
Installation Guide:
Deflate and dismount the tyre.
Remove the inner tube.
See the yellow tape; this is the tape that seals the rim toward the spokes. This is Stans rim tape that is required to make rim air tight.
Install the valve and tighten the nut.
Mount the tyre back on the rim and try to inflate it.
If the tyre inflates and stays inflated for a couple of minutes it means
you can make tubeless with this combination of rim and tyre. You may need the air compressor for the job but most certainly a big pump. You cannot inflate the tire with small portable pumps.
Deflate the tyre and take it off the rim on one small section.
Shake the bottle and pour sealant into the tyre.
Turn the wheel with open section up and mount the tyre back on the rim.
Inflate the tyre.
Now shake the wheel and turn it around so the sealant will equally distribute
inside and seal all the gaps.
Place the wheel on a bucket and wait for a min or two then turn it over.
Check for the air bubbles with the soap and water. If you see any shake the wheel some more until the sealant seals the holes.

Key to success in tubeless mounting If the tire is easy to mount, it will be a PITA to seat (even with compressor) If the tire is hard to mount, it will seat the bead with a hand pump. The bead needs a good seat before any air is applied for best results.

This sealant prevents tyre from deflate, a soon as you puncture your tyre it seals it back. Another benefit is a bit lower weight round 100 g per wheel. Some say that the riding filling is better.

For all of you that don't know about the benefits of a tubeless tire. Is the first upgrade you should do to your bike, period. Say goodbye to flat tires forever, at least I've been riding for half a year lots and lots of deserts and mointains, lots of pinched tires but NEVER a flat tire. I just keep running and it seals lightning fast. Best upgraded ever.

For me, it really depends on where I'll be riding. For more XC riding, I'm usually running a tube. A good trick is after installing to tube, pour baby powder in the tire before closing it up and inflating. Roll it around then inflate it. This should let you run low enough pressures without pinch flats. When I'm trail riding, I'm running Stans NoTubes system in my Sun Ringle Charger wheels. That suppleness and even lower tire pressure really helps through the more technical terrain like rock gardens and tree roots.

Getting the tyre to bead correctly is an important part that you missed out. Using soapy water on the bead when you first mount it can help it slip into the correct position as well as inflating to 50-60psi and pulling on the bead that's unseated. Its important to help get the tyre seal and spin true with the wheel.

@kennkiser
@kennkiser 6 жыл бұрын
I read comments stating the sealant needs replaced every 3-6 months depending on climate. That can't be true, can it? Also, do you need to remove the old sealant each time the tire is off the rim and being resealed? I know many cyclists who ride several thousand miles with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires and puncture resistant tubes without getting flats. Carrying sealant and whatever's needed to redo a tire seems like more of a hassle than carrying a spare tube. I'm not knocking cyclists who use this system for whatever reason, but it's definitely not for me. Then again, I'm not riding an expensive, lightweight bike or competing for personal bests all the time. If it works for the people who like it, that's awesome! Keep peddling!

Kenn Kiser Yes latex based sealants do dry up and must be refreshed regular. I like Orange Seal much better doesn’t dry up nearly as fast as Stans which also can eat away aluminum and some rubber compounds. Finishline makes some that remains liquid but I had no luck with it. Tubeless is all about ride quality, low pressures,traction and no flats. I use the original old school ‘ghetto’ tubeless set ups and havent had a failure of any kind in 15 years, Except those that were my fault or failures such as torn tires that nothing can stop. Marathon tires, HD tubes may be nearly flat proof but offer little in the way of comfort , traction or reasonable weight. People use them because they last long , carry heavy loads and are very durable, nothing else. I dont really recommend high pressure road tubeless. Too many drawbacks and issues for the costs involved. Id much rather ride tubulars for absolute performance, but I dont ride roads much anyway. If people learn not to ride tires at high pressures on the road, theyd be more efficient, more comfortable and less liable to flat. I weigh 170 and never ever inflate more than 50 psi on 32c road tires. I often run 26 psi on 36c ‘cross tires and 20psi on mtb tires all ridden on really rocky trails. Low pressure efficiency on the road have been proven in real world scientific testing with power meters beyond any doubt. People use high pressure because it feels faster. Its not, its an illusion unless you ride on a velodrome or extremely smooth well maintained roads unknown here in Wackofornia!

Alex Morgan Its actually ‘real world’ testing done in a scientific manner.Ive read the write ups at Compass Bicyles by Jan Heine. They have lots of info about tires. Theyre done with an actual rider on the bike using power meters on different road surface conditions. Many of the tests Ive seen previously were done on rollers which arent real world scenarios in the least. I believe Leonard Zinn wrote lots to the same effect.

@@rollinrat4850 So no peer reviewed INDEPENDENT scientific trials just testing carried out by organisations with a commercial interest. Yeah I've seen "research" or "testing" done by Compass. Seems strange that they use it to promote their business. I guess if they found otherwise they wouldn't be in business. LoL. Defying all the years of Pro Cycle racing. For give me if I am wrong but I seem to remember you popping up on some other cycling forum maybe CGOAB.com trying to claim the whole of the Pro Racing Teams have got it wrong using narrow tyres with hight pressures as you claim these have a high rolling resistance compared to larger fat chunky tyres with much lower pressures and needing less energy to pedal therefore more efficient. This person also referenced Compass tyres. Strange that. Apologies if it is some on else and not you, but it really is rubbish.

Ray Mosier Yes, the reason being is that you have no tube to "pinch flat". If something does puncture your tire, the remaining Stan's sealant in the tire instantly seals the puncture and you can keep riding. The other benefit is you can run very low pressure in your tires which significantly increases traction and control. Increase in traction means faster cornering and increased speed overall.
