Stan won season 6 of Australian Idol. He's a cancer survivor (literally has no stomach) from a cancer that runs in his family. The band is "The Levites". The Background Vocals are "The Standard". Siiiiis this is the best reaction vid of Stans I've seen!! 😂 He's actually quite well known Down Under!! He's a Maori boy from rural New Zealand who grew up in the church and came to fame after winning season 6 of Australian Idol... like you say he had a rough time in the industry and almost died from cancer(he has a documentary available on youtube if you wanna watch it!). Since then he's shaken off the industry and come home to NZ and reclaimed his sound.... he's a massive advocate for our people and has managed to actually bring our native language to the mainstream media in our country and has bilingual, english and maori songs. We now hear our language everyday on the radio and tv in large part to his efforts and those of many Maori artists. He's also a big supporter of BIPOC's(Black, Indigenous, People Of Colour) struggles and will support them whole heartedly hence the reference to the Black Lives Matter movement... he also supports the efforts of Mauna Kea, Standing Rocks and West Papua and many other movements world wide. This song is originally a Kanye West song that he remade and dedicated to a man who's name is Sean Wainui who was also a religious man and quite famous here in NZ for sports but passed away in an accident leaving his widow and children. Stan's the man!! 😂

Stan has been well known in New Zealand and maybe Australia for over a decade. You should check out “he kakano ahau” by Stan. It’s a te reo Maori song. (The indigenous language of NZ. Stan is Maori, and there’s something special about him singing in te reo Maori) or “Aotearoa” by Stan (and others) Aotearoa is the native name for New Zealand.

Im always a big fan of STAN WALKER..You haven’t heard some other Polynesian singers like MAOLI,JOSH TOTOFI,FIJI,etc there’s a lot. Stan grew up in my area, he has always been able to sing (like alot of islanders lol) but he has really come into his own in recent years, one of the best versions of this song going around!! If I could recommend another reasonably unknown Aussie (at least on the global scale) i would suggest Listening to Matt Corby sing Miracle Love Live in manchester cathedral, you wont be ready for those vocals haha. I’m a huge Fan of Stan and his whole entourage. Have been since started. It’s literally a whole unit. Their time to shine as artists are noticeably coincided. They are for sure all of them are great friends of his I’m positive. He had his stomach removed in September 2017 inherited a rare cancer-causing gene mutation called CdHI which has been the cause of 25 family members deaths. I think that’s enough from me. Check out Wikipedia! He beat it and I Hope for the rest of his life. True survivor!! He won the Australian Idol effortlessly too!!
