I grew up at 16 yrs old in the Chicago suburbs working at a BMW dealer. My boss liked me and trusted me and let me learn to drive stick on his 88 BMW M5. Also drove an orange 635 CSI with gold bbs wheels, the 850s and 93 M3s new - at 16. Also drove a Shelby replica AC Cobra and a 67 Corvette Stingray convertible. Years later after moving to Los Angeles working for a company I found out my customer was Carroll Shelby and got a private viewing of his collection there. I love cars. I love older BMWs.

That is a stunning E28! I have an E39 as my daily and an E30 that I lusted after for 25 years and I adore both of them. It's getting harder and harder to find these gems (especially with a manual transmission), but I love to see examples like this. You cannot beat older (2004 and older for me) BMW's for classically beautiful styling and a drivng experience that has to be experienced for yourself, you just can't explain to someone how good they are. I love that analog feel when everything is going digital these days. And a crack free dash?!?! That is about as common as a unicorn!

Awesome car! I'm more of a Benz guy myself, I do agree with you the E28 is probably one of the most elegant saloons ever. And it sure was more of a driver's car than a Benz of that era. I'm a lazy driver, so I prefer a W124. To me both great saloons from an era when cars were fun and it was not considered wrong to enjoy them.

My very first car was a used 84 BMW 520i I bought in Germany. It had a manual transmission sport wheels fat rubber & a manual sun roof. The car was bad on gas & had a GORILLA clutch. I drove it everywhere all over Germany & sold it for as much as I paid for it. My second BMW was a 94 530i with that same M60 V8 but with an auto & I was in love. This video brought both of those cars together for me in a way I didn't think possible. Thanks for sharing BM Vee passion & thanks for sharing this car.

When I was 21, I stood on the showroom floor of a BMW dealership in Detroit. I will never forget that evening nor the vehicle that has forever captivated me! A 1988 BMW M5! Absolutely everything you spoke to in your vid is spot on! It is one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. The 3, 6 and 7 series vehicles from this epic lineup in the 1980’s are also stellar in their styling and build…the e28 somehow always floats to the pinnacle of their styling at this very special moment in time near 40 years ago. I wonder if you like M-B 124s? They are quite lovely as well. Lastly, you have to get these vehicles in euro spec with the shallow set bumpers! Just wicked, the car you spotlighted!

It’s great to see these sedans becoming a pinnacle in a subdued racing facet. As an owner of a 1 owner 528e, I can now understand and appreciate the build quality and road drivability it has . Slow, but I like it that way. It has a certain attitude in the way it initially dives into the turns like no other vehicle, ever! And with the way it absorbs bumps, I feel like it was the best 5grand ever spent on any vehicle purchase I’ve ever made. Btw, 37mpg hwy mileage out of a gas 6 cylinder…hmmm, how come you don’t see that in any modern 6 ? Love em!!!

My neighbor owned an 88 M5 when I was in college. Every single time I saw him drive it, I was absolutely transfixed by it mann. Years later, one of my buddies owned an 86 535is that I actually drove and I was hooked. I've been mysteriously drawn to these cars since my graduation from high school wayy back in 1983. A new Buick dealership in Philly had a 79 733i on their lot for sale as a used car trade and I foolishly thought I could convince my Pops into assisting me in buying it and he told me no way. Upkeep & maintenance repairs would be wayy too expensive for me to handle. All the right reasons. Today, I own an 86 M635Csi as part of my small personal collection. I'll never sell it. I still do hope to some day add an E28 5. Thanks again for the great content. #respect

I love my E46. Beautiful 328i mystic blue metallic sedan, vintage of 2000. My dad got it in 1999 when he graduated out of business school. He handed it down to me, and I love that car. It has a lot of issues now and me and my dad have made it a project car in our garage. But that car had no issues up until 220k miles, and it has over 250k miles on it now. That car handles so perfectly, it really is excellent as a driving machine. BMW not so long ago made real quality cars, that were beautiful, a great combination between tech and analog, and a masterpiece to drive. I miss old BMWs, they really are awesome.

I remember being a kid and lived back in Poland. In the 80's or 90's it was just a dream to own a BMW. Only the mafia guys were having those cars. Crazy times ;) Today I'm on third e28 now and enjoy every minute of it. E24 was also parked in the garage. Really enjoyed this video. I think you got it just spot on about e28's. Lovely cars. Keep doing what you doing, you are inspiring so many people. I know it. Cheers!!! Zdrowia!!

Beautiful. I 1000% agree with you. The e28 is also my favorite. I’d love an e12. Currently own an e39 M5. Currently being rebuilt by Edge Motor Works in Fremont, California.

Awesome video, I have a 528e that's waiting to be fixed up. But loved how it drove when I first picked it up.

Great vid, great car. Had an E28 a few years ago, only the 2.0 but it was a straight 6 and it revved hard, manual box too. Some bellend ran into the rear and wrote it off.

I’ve been following you since you were a little ways into the Ferrari build, but never paid much attention to videos that weren’t part of the build series. That was a mistake. The production, editing and writing are top notch. I’ll be going back through your profile again. Thanks for the dope content!

Loved it, my E28 has been and will always be my favorite car, even though it’s only a €1000 rustbucket, it seems to me that the E28 was the car that got it all.

I've owned 2 of them and the E28 is up there with the best cars I have owned. These days I drive some M cars from 20 years back, but I always remember how amazing the E28's were at delivering hours of driving enjoyment.

Beautiful! Became a BMW fan when I was given a ride to lunch in Spring 1994 in San Jose in a 5MT 5-series. In summer 2001, I bought my first BMW, an E46 325i sport wagon. If it had the preferred 5MT instead of StepTronic, I might still be driving it. I’m pretty much of a car nut and currently have 3 cars: a 2007 BMW 335i convertible with 6MT and sport pkg, a 2010 BMW 535i sedan 6MT with sport and a 2018 Tesla Model 3 with MPP sport coil overs. Even in the E9x and E60 generation you could see technology taking over, but these cars still have great driving feel, handling and performance.

Speaking of old-school Bimmers, years ago I bought a 1980 320is with the factory BBS wheels and the deep front spoiler. It was one of the slowest cars I have ever owned. But much like my FIAT X1/9, also one of the most fun. The Moral of the story being, speed isn't everything. Road/steering feel, chassis dynamics and having character are more important than just "numbers".

This is a slick build. I personally own a Mint-Grün 77 E12 525 (so no i). It's a time-capsule and my goals is to keep it time-correct

Dude, I've been watching you for a while now, but only recently subscribed... I'm a little fussy with whom I dish them out to. I watch lots of car build stuff, but your production quality, narration, and presentation skills are top notch, not to mention your technical chops! I'm off over to mobile (german second hand car website) to find me an e28. Keep doing what you're doing!

Hi Mike. I liked this content it is awsome. I love al the older BMW my mom had a 1982 e18 535 until 2018 when she sold it because it was just to big for a 70 year old lady and only had 89000 km. On the klock still miss it and my dad had a 635 csi till 1995. Wish i still had both. Being from South Africa we did not have a lot of e28 m5 but had the opportunity to drive one about 10 years ago and it is an experience i will never forget. Live your channel
