If you are trying to keep the same overall diameter/circumference you will have a taller sidewall, i.e. larger tire, and the tire might add more weight than is saved by the smaller wheel. For brakes, I did a vacuum conversion and plan to install Boxster S calipers with A8 rotors up front. My understanding is with the apikol adapters, these are a direct fit and work with 16's. The rears will be converted to URS4 stock rears. I went through the suspension, subframes, etc already just as you did (mine had 2 bennet coil overs already), although my powder coat shop mistakenly used gloss black. My motor is a mostly stock 10v - I'm excited to see how your AAN comes together and gets installed. Very impressive work on the cylinder head. If it's within the budget, the dimpled intake on a port injected head seems like a worthwhile addition. Plus, it's so very pretty. I am going to try to put some light to the "dimpled effect" on the intake pipe walls. Whenever there is a fluid with certain velocity around a wall, near the wall it is created a zone called "boundary layer". This zone can be either laminar or turbulent depending on the local Reynolds number of the flow. When there is a fast or sharp change in that wall, a deattachnent of the flow happens, this means that the flow does not travel the direction it is supposed to and recirculation zones can be created. Since turbulent bounday layers deattach from a wall later than laminar ones, golf balls or tennis balls have these not perfectly plain surfaces allowing the ball to reach a higher speed and hence reducing drag. Hope this helps, love your videos

I also like 80's 90's era cars, one of my favorites among others is the famous Quattro S1 5cyl. The iconic sound and form of the car is unbeatable. Glad you didn't go for 17 or 18 inch wheels and a wide body. Your car will be a diamond when finished. Perfect choice of the cyl.head the dimpled intake and polished exhaust runners. Some use dimples on the valve's outer surface (where air hits it). It also makes wonders with carb engines, gasoline atoms will not condense on the runner's walls that easily because of the air cushings/turbulences. Intake velocity will increase because of the turbulence layers at the walls decreasing the diameter (velocity = pressure * surface) but because they ported the runners it should be the same with increased CFM (bigger crosssection area). I also like your thinking about not spreading hate. Keeping the good vibes and mindset up and forward. Looking forward to the upcoming videos!

The dimpling on the inside of the port also has the effect of further atomizing and mixing a fuel/air mixture, and also "straightening" the overall airflow through the port. It does this by making the airflow within a certain distance from the wall more turbulent. The air/fuel mixture in the center will act less upon the walls of the port, and more upon the turbulence near the surface of the wall, itself. It seems anti-intuitive, but it does create a more uniform, and better-mixed fuel-air charge, and also increases overall port volume. Logic says removing material from the inside leaves room for airflow.

when talking about dimples in a sense of a cylinder head i find it better to describe it as the runners are more efficient. the dimples create turbulence so that the air has reduced friction against the surface in the port, this allows air closer to the metal surface to move faster in relevance to the air in the center, its the same concept as drag coefficient when it comes the vehicles. In its most basic principle the dimples make the air think its going through something with a larger diameter without physically increasing the diameter/size of the ports

@Scoots1994 Жыл бұрын
The turbulence supposedly helps fuel atomization/tumble too, but if it does I would guess it's more about the speed of the flow more than any boundary layer turbulence.
@russiancommy Жыл бұрын
use the bernoulli's principle to increase the flow, the dimples don't increase flow at all but just smoothen it out, I absolutely believe there is benefit but very miniscule and a can be only seen as a benefit to NA applications. this is a boosted application. you're RAMMING air in not sucking it in, which sucking has resistance to fight against sure. in this application you are pushing air through an object. while a golf ball in the object being moved through air. why scavenging exhaust "bernoulli's principle" would actually be more beneficial because an engine is just an air compressor, if you can't get air out you can't get air in to make anymore power.
@Scoots1994 Жыл бұрын
@@russiancommy the point is reducing the size of the boundary layer and thus improving the effective size of the port. Also boosted or not the flow will have a boundary layer. I believe the gain is small, but at some point small gains that can be implemented by a robot are worth it.
@russiancommy Жыл бұрын
@@Scoots1994 at the cost its not worth it at all, and yes you're correct the turbulence creates a boundary level for it to smoothen the flow of air. which again DOES matter if it's a boosted application or not. because the difference is at 10psi he can make 500hp on this head while I for example need to use 15psi to make the same on a stock head. while in a NA application you can't just increase boost, so yes application matters a metric shitttt ton and back to the point of it does not increase flow rate because the flow rate is increased by using the bernoulli's principle which is exactly why ports get narrow then big again to increase velocity, the dimples just make the air flow SMOOTH. not faster the dimples make the effect more efficient but is not the cause of velocity increase inside the chamber.
@Scoots1994 Жыл бұрын
@@russiancommy I didn't say boost doesn't matter, just that boosted or not it helps. 100% right on the wheels. I own a mk2 Jetta and have 16" wheels on it and they look big on the car and this prob has close to the same wheel arch size, maybe a little bigger. More classic Audi/vw looks ridiculous with big wheels on them unless maybe on an old Audi v8q and even then it looks kind of gaudy. Can't wait to see more of this on the go, it's going to be an animal.

Here’s a trick for stuck bearing races. Tig or mig a bead on the inside race and when they cool it forces them to shrink and they will come out soooo much easier sometimes with no press. Just a tap with a hammer if you lucky

Totally forgot you picked up the Einstar! Surprised you don't like the quad headlights, personally really liked them. Excited to see you share the learning process

Basically with the dimples, a lot of what you are doing is creating a boundry layer of air that smooths out the air by removing less predictable, incomplete boundry layers (so not boundry layers, I'm just using the phrase to keep consistent) created by imperfections in the heads shape, that are not united into a smooth layer, that mess with the overall flow of the air. This DEFINITELY works, though on this scale, I don't have the data, but you cite something about that yourself. Balls that fly through the air, aircraft, and some watercraft have used these principles to great effect.
