I think the reason is teachers try to explain things in lots of detail so that you understand but what you actually want is something simple and not convoluted. So this kind of video helps a lot. After watching a video with a methodical approach like this, when your teacher goes more in detail you can understand more.

I'll do it anyway incase anybody else was wondering the vertex form equation is y=a(x-h)^2+k where h,k is the vertex since vertex form uses -h, multiply it by -1 the x+3 in the equation becomes -3 as the x for the vertex

@@shm8409 Great question. If I understand your question correctly, yes. For example, if you had a vertex of *(5, 15)* then your vertex form equation would look something like y = 2 ( x *- 5* ) ^ 2 + 15

If your x^2 isnt just x^2, try factorising the whole equation by taking the factors to make a=1 and the bring that factor to the left

@@howlingwolves6448 yow. Unfortunately im still taking maths so ill try to help. You can do that by factoring the coefficient of a. f(x)= 3x² + 4x + 9 f(x)= 3 (x² + (4x/3) + 3) Then you can complete the square inside of the bracket Lastly expand so you can get it in the form of f(x)= a(x-h)² + k

one small mishap that you might run into is x^2 - 10x + 3 and then take half of -10 which is -5, but to work using this method, you would have to instead take half of -10 to be 5(make it positive). Another issue with this is that you can’t tell when there weather it is a horizontal or vertical shrink or stretch since the the x^2 coefficient is always going to stay in the parentheses, and I have too much hw to figure out a work around 😭 so i will stick with factoring using perfect square :’)

why would you complete the square instead of just taking the AOS formula to find x, an then plugging in x to find y? --> vertex for example: y=x^2+6x-5.... a=1 b=6 c=-5... x=-b/2a x=-(6)/2(1) x=-3 y=(-3)^2+6(-3)-5 y=9-18-5 y=-14 vertex=(-3,-14) y=(x+3)-14 wouldnt that be easier than having students complete the square? idk just a thought haha love your videos bro!!!
