This was a nice refresher, I learned this defense at a Gracie Barra and the details in my memory were a little foggy Thank you for sharing.

These are better details, at least compared to what is shown on the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Curriculum videos. I'm not criticizing, as that is how everyone used to show it.

People dissing this... I guess you're all also 3rd degree black belts under Rickson Gracie? No? You mean you're not even blackbelts? Oh you don't even train? Yeah I should totally listen to your opinions then! Well the beauty of BJJ is we can test this out 100% I'm going to try this later today with my buddy resisting me. If it doesn't work then so be it but I'm not going to just poo poo this out of hand. If it plain doesn't work I'll come back and change this comment but until then I'm going to be humble enough to let the guy with 20 plus years of experience talk.

I learned the OG defense years ago. We were taught to grab the wrist rather than brace the hip. After that, what Professor Akins said about blocking the hip stopping the attacking partner from jumping/pulling guard makes sense. Frankly, I only saw the detail with the hip made with another OG defense that’s basically a suplex reversal. That’s the best way I could describe it.

I like this one. Thank you! I think I tapped to guillotines at least 20 times this week and need to solve this problem. Just started nogi and people love this shit in nogi.... In gi I almost never saw it.

It better. If they swap out the wrist grab for the hip block, it’s a game changer. • And the cool thing about the instructors I had was that they had no problem using students as guinea pigs, especially the ones posing the questions. If ya know, ya know.
