When you think of some of the most effective submissions out there, there is no doubt that the guillotine choke will pop up high on peoples lists. This is because it is so versatile. You are able to apply the move from so many different positions and it is incredibly useful for those who are lighter in weight against a bigger training partner.
In today's video, I go over the Standing Guillotine and its variations as well as a few common mistakes that people do. I also added to the video, a unique variation that is so incredibly painful and effective that it is a must try!

@stasisjiujitsuandyoga
@stasisjiujitsuandyoga 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! What they are doing is jumping into "closed guard". Doing this allows for someone to control the body, limiting his movement. Remember this, the more you control your opponent the less he moves, the less he moves, odds of escape become incredibly harder.

There are challenges to the arm in. Harder to finish is the main one, it takes more precise pressure and good squeeze endurance. However, it makes up for by being harder to slip out which mean tighter control and theres one less arm for him to defend with.

@stasisjiujitsuandyoga
@stasisjiujitsuandyoga Жыл бұрын
Depends how strong his frame is. But at the same time if you have it under his chin it should be really difficult to not reach and protect his neck. If they do post on your hip i recommend you snap them down to all fours, something like a sprawl. From there you finish by siting to closed guard, sweeping into a top position. Try this out and let me know in the comments how it goes.

@stasisjiujitsuandyoga

Great question. Typically when you connect with a Guillotine grio you can sprawl your legs back. Forcing your opponent to all fours. That helps prevent groin strikes. Plus I too can use my knees to strike his head and choke him simultaneously

Trust me, when you’re getting choked out, you’re going to focus on ripping the arm off you from the choke, now yes they’re humans who’re willing to do more logical things while being choked like trying to scratch your eyes out, or whatever they can to cause you pain to let go, but 99% of people are instinctively going to act the same way, and that’s them panicking as they get choked unconscious

@stasisjiujitsuandyoga 3 жыл бұрын
depending on how long you have been wrestling I would say you have a nice head start compared to someone who has zero training in combat sports. My best advice for now would is to be mindful as to how intense you go because wrestling requires fast twitch response while jiu jitsu can be done without explosive power(still helps to have). So what can happen is you will deter your ability to form consistent training partners becauseof the danger of injury. Last thing I would say is the biggest hurdle besides my last advice is playing guard of your back, you will have temptations to just sit up to singles and doubles because guard is something that takes patience to develop. Keep that in mind because as you improve the guard is something I have noticed to lack in wrestlers who train jiu jitsu. Think of it as a plan B use it ONLY when you realy need it. Let me know if this helps, il be happy to answer any other questions

This is incorrect... as some have stated in the comments and as many people have probably personally experienced, cranking the neck the way this guy just shows pulls the neck muscles. Yeah its pretty uncomfortable, but lot of people can bear the pain and it doesn’t end in a submission. The proper way is to “rock the baby”. That results in a proper blood choke. The way this guy shows it is the way amateurs mistakenly do the guillotine. Look up guillotine and “rock the baby” for a proper demonstration
