Worked as a wildlife inspector at the port of New York for seven years. Venomous reptiles would come in regularly for the pet trade and it was part of the job to inspect them safely. I can tell you there were quite a few days we all were feeling pretty freaked out. And mad at humanity who wanted these animals as pets. They take them out of the wild, it’s pretty horrible,. The people who capture them are paid almost nothing and reptile dealers make a fortune. The trade may have changed over time and there may be captive breeding programs, but I got to say why in the hell would you want to breed these guys for pets?

A lot of cobras are captive bred now, but it hasn't changed enough. Most of the hobby is afraid to call out irresponsible behavior because they don't want legislation that would take all their pets away. It's a problem in the larger hobby, but venomous people, man.

That sounds awful! What a scary snake! My mom is terrified of snakes. She grew up in a rural area working on a ranch in hayfields with her dad and sisters. There were snakes, and she didn’t like them at all… the kids at her school (25-ish kids in her grade, all the way through HS, so they all knew each other) bullied her a lot, and some of them would catch garter snakes and put them down her clothes 😭 so… yeah, she cannot handle snakes, or even knowing if there’s one in a cage in another room. Or seeing one in a movie or book or anything. My mom is amazing and so strong and brave and hardworking… I’m very protective of her when it comes to snakes.

You should know there is a show on the National Geographic tv channel about a couple of snake handlers who live in Johanesburg South Africa who spend their days removing pesky, unwanted nuisance snakes from the yards of businesses and residential properties. Some people relocate raccoons or crocodiles from suburban real estate in the United States including my town so they won't be a pesky nuisance any more and put them back in the wild. This boyfriend/girlfriend couple does the same category of nuisance animal removal but the target animal is a venomous snake. The most surprising thing is that the girlfriend is severely allergic to all snake venom [ even the type that gives most people merely mild discomfort ] The thing that inspires her to keep working at this job is that she passionately wants to protect snakes from being beaten to death by scared, ignorant humans. She wants to relocate as many of the snakes as possible to more appropriate homes in the wild. They do have a standardized way of catching the snakes and putting them in cotton canvas bags which get put into large plastic storage bins for the trip back to the wild.

Kim: "We're moving." YES 😂 My exact reaction to the headline yesterday was, "We're moving...you know what, that might not be enough... time to burn it all down and gooooo!" I cannot handle snakes. Nope, nope, nope. 😱

Ummm... where are snakes NOT present? As wildlife, or as pets, or in zoos. Don't just run, consider how to cope with what is scary. What can you do to defend yourself until a professional can come and handle the critter? I've learned how to kill bark scorpions. and I've had to deal with rats. Not in the same state, though, thankfully. Never ever corner a critter you are afraid of. And give that critter plenty of room to escape. Let a professional deal directly with it if necessary.

But a copperhead won’t kill you. You can get a nasty infection from them and possibly tissue damage, but small risk of death. A cobra & a rattlesnake will kill you without emergent treatment. The venomous snakes that live in my area are copperheads, timber rattlesnakes, & cottonmouths. Fortunately, we also have kingsnakes that help with the venomous population.

In Phoenix, AZ, rattlesnakes and scorpions and black widows and brown recluses... they all can get inside the house. A spitting cobra would have some serious competition regarding making me scared. No brag, just fact

@@laurabudd8680 We have all of those too. I’ve killed a LOT of scorpions in my lifetime. They love wood and my parents built a log home. 😆 My mom got stung once by one, it was worse than a red wasp sting. I also took care of a lady that had a brown recluse bite on her forehead (I’m a nurse). I felt so badly for her. Her entire forehead was swollen and her eyes were swelled shut. I’m not sure what happened to her, but that left a good enough impression that if I see any spider, they’re dead.

A normal summer here in Australia. Wild snakes, not "pets". I wont list the snakes here, but none rattle.

Loved it!! BTW, come to Australia, snakes love to come inside, especially through toilets and drains. Freaks me out as we had a hatchling Eastern Brown (so only about a foot long) come up to our patio 3 days after we moved here. Now I am constantly watching our yard and everywhere inside the house and we have been here 2yrs now and not seen another snake.....but most of our neighbours have seen/been visited by a few. Too many snakes here.

I live in Texas, we had a guy a few weeks back whose pet tiger got out and was walking around a neighborhood. Owning poisonous animals or insects or giant wild animals or really any wild animal like why?? Why is this allowed and not monitored better?

I read somewhere that there are now more pet tigers in Texas than there are wild tigers in the rest of the world. Hard to believe that, though.

My four year old son asked this morning if we could watch the "lost cobra movie" this morning (that we watched "16 years ago" trying to understand the concept of time). It took a minute or two for me to figure out that he meant this. Makes me laugh, he is watching it very intensely. :)

It is quite apparent that Penn has a very good singing voice but, ya know, if your voice can't go high enough to sing the entire song - especially one as notoriously difficult as "Livin' On A Prayer," you could always just...pick a different song lol

On vacation at Disneyworld, a portable fridge was brought to our room. In the dark I stepped on something. Turned on the light, thought it was a fake snake put there as a joke until it moved! I think my screaming woke up the entire hotel. I jumped onto the top of the counter by the sink. The hotel removed it, said snakes 🐍 crawl into the little fridges to keep warm.

@@tinaperez7393 They should be checked. You are right. It was 8 degrees in Pittsburgh when we left in January 1997, 45 degrees in Orlando. They de-iced the plane before we left Pittsburgh. That made us nervous. To us it was sunny and warm at DisneyWorld. We wore T-shirts and shorts or jeans. But some visitors had gloves, heavy coats and tousle caps. I guess it is what you are used to. It is funny now, not then. And it wasn’t a poisonous snake 🐍.

I changed this song to "Soiled Underwear" about a guy who had to have an emergency bowel movement and didn't make it to the toilet in time....... "Tommy had to take a big dump, his bowels ain't feeling right, he's sh#t out of luck, no pun, no pun. Ate too many tacos today, looking for a can, to unload some clay and mud, some mud. He knows he's gotta hold back with all he's got, or else he's gonna crap before he reaches the pot. He started sh#tting, and it's a lit of mud, a deuce has been dropped. Woah, was almost there. Woah, oah, there's soiled underwear! It's a shame, it was his last pair. Woah, oah, there's soiled underwear!"

So a few years ago someone else lost their pet cobra. I don't remember what state this occurred in. But the snake ended up entering someone's house through the DRYER VENT and the woman of the house saw the snake sticking out from under her dryer and called the authorities. Fortunately no-one (including the snake) was injured. Edit: I looked it up and it happened in September of 2015 in Orlando FL
