Standing on a Planet with NEW third verse - original song on Ko’Aloha Opio ukulele

Sorry for the poor video on this one. I didn’t bring a tripod and only decided to record it moments before performing. But I love the way my new song, Standing on a Planet, is evolving and I just love the way it sounds with two percussionists (shout out to Donnie Hall and Jordan Alan Jackson). So I decided to share.
This is a songwriters open mic that meets once a month in a church. Churches are not for me. I grew up Catholic and the God I learned about was judgemental, vindictive, controlling and very harsh. I was taught that we are all doomed from day one. As babies we have the stain of Original Sin on us (going all the way back to the time a woman dared to know more). I was taught to feel shame and guilt for the very things that make me human. And I was taught that I’ll never be good enough without God. I don’t believe this any more. I don’t believe in a God that is willing to turn his back on me and torture me through all eternity if I screw up. I believe in Love. And I believe that Love is inside us all. That it’s what connects us.
When I first wrote this song, it felt rebellious. I was certainly never taught to do what makes me feel good. To lean in to who I am and trust that it’s good. But that’s where I’m at now. I believe in Joy. I believe that feeling good is good for everyone. That we can move hearts so much more with joy and love and compassion and acceptance than with shame and guilt and threats of a fiery, torturous afterlife. I believe that we are all children of the universe and therefore inherently good.
So this little song means a lot to me. It’s my reminder that I’m enough. That I am good. That I deserve to feel good. And so do you ❤️

Great song! But I have to comment that I'm so sorry to hear about your hurtful experiences with Christianity because I believe that scripture teaches that God loves us just as we are. 😞Anyway, I enjoy your channel. 😊
