Craig Hardin shows a ridge detail that involves double locking the metal. This is a traditional technique that ensures water tightness.

This is actually a nice job double locking a ridge seam. It's a lot harder than it looks, and and it's not done much any more,I think because painted or mill finish steel does not have the malleability of traditional standing seamraw metals like copper, zinc, lead.I would say 26 gauge steel is the linit for this kind of detailing as the next jump to 24 gauge would make it almost impossible to do with these methods.I understand the comments concerning the distressing of the metal , but traditionally it was atrade off between a texbook cosmetic appearance and an essentially weather and windproof ridge lock(no ridge cap could ever hope to be as tight as this).Part of the"beauty is in the effectiveness of the seal and this applicator deserves a lot of credit because what he did is about as good as it gets with a steel medium. If you relly want to see roofs with cosmetic imperfections take a good look at soldered copper panels on a large application sometime, oil caning all over the place, but still so beautiful. We do mostly vented ridges now , but we used to do a lot of single lock ridges(1 1/2 standup, same amount bent over the top and sqweezed into a seam) whitch are a lot easier and I would say more common, but leave an exposed edge, but still a very tight ridge.I understand all the comments but people want different methods for different reasons so why not give praise for what is a well done application.

There are several methods to do any detail on roofing installations. What Craig is doing is old time metal forming. Somethiing you don't see much of anymore in our world of mass production, and subbing work out to guys getting paid by the square. Yes there are easier ways to do this, but I like your work Craig. This is how it's done in Europe, where it all started.

This is far from a mess. They are probably one of most skilled metal roofing companies in the country. I get that that there are tool marks and such but they are clearly focusing on recreating the old school standing seam roofs that were being made (and regularly lasted 100yrs) long before zbar, beutyl tape and such ever existed.
