To say he wasn’t affected by his father’s passing makes me want to hug him. A lot happened to me at seven that I didn’t understand or have the words for that affect me now that I do. You don’t realize or process those things the same way older people can because they understand what’s happening to them. They can process immediately. There’s a child roaming around within us that we protect, or maybe that child protects us from that pain. IDK. But I do know, sooner or later those two selves collide.
