@@San-lh8us I feel a little second hand embarrassment that you think you're right and say it so pompously. Please Google "diacritical marks". @@San-lh8us As an interesting extra, the placement of an asterisk before or after a word changes its purpose. By longstanding practice, if placed after a word, an asterisk references a footnote later in the text. To indicate that a word is being corrected, an asterisk should be placed before the word in question, not after. Although this is not a hard and fast rule, it is still accepted practice; most likely, this is to avoid confusion given the already established practice of footnotes.

I just end it on the spot. Live and let live. I'm not sure you can work on attraction. The happiest married couples all eventually seem like brother and sister -- everyone gets uglier with time, sex drive drops, eventually they're just a man and woman who get along well and live in the same house. Attraction is for making babies, and once that's done, it isn't really needed.

The most difficult reality I've realized this past year is that being a good person isn't enough because goodness should be standard, and it is what comes naturally from a healthy relationship. It's certainly a far from even ever hoping that it would be given in return or shared with me on principal alone. Her friends are good to her. The waitress or barista is good to her. Her family is good to her. An infinite amount of strangers, friends and family can be good to her and good for her. But that isn't any basis for what they are to her. And thinking it is would mean I'm not as good a person as I thought, because she deserves more. I should strive to be more. She would be happier if I were more. And if I would ever be enough, she'd keep me. So men, if you've a friend who you want to be more for, and do more with, be more and do it for yourself with nothing more in mind than your own goodness. I promise the rest will follow on it's on.

That's right essentially, but it can be a tough call to know where the line is between *living with imperfection vs. outright settling for less than what you deserve.* Some people nearly ruin/traumatize their lives, or worse yet get killed, sticking it out with someone they shouldn't be with all because they're a bit *too* convinced that love is about compromise. Correct that no one should be mindlessly chasing after a unicorn, but people have to make a judgement call as to just how good is good enough, and that can be a tough call in many situations. I empathize with that struggle.

@chrisjfox8715
@chrisjfox8715 2 жыл бұрын
@@elenapederson1862 yeah for sure. And I know I essentially brought up abuse too but even aside from dangerous situations, there is a such thing as settling for less [in much safer contexts] just because one feels as though they have to. A lot of women that grew up on old-fashioned values, for instance, seem to have this "stand by your man" mentality...mistaking "relationships are supposed to be hard" for "relationships can be hard." At what point is a boring relationship not worth trying to spice up anymore? At what point does someone's laziness turn from a cute personality trait and into downright detrimental to the couple's well-being? What's the difference between being in love vs. being in love with the idea of being in love? These are all lines that may be easy to discern when you finally have some distance from the situation, but while you're in the midst of it can be tough. *And more appropriate to OP's point* when deciding whether to even enter a relationship or not, one's trauma can make them a bit too overzealous about defining where these lines are because they don't want to end up falling so hard that they're stuck not being able to see those lines anymore.

I waited less time to decide if someone was willing to work on themselves or our relationship, and the time alone taught me that I love myself single just as much with my partners.
