Yes, I know the law despite the loser below who asks otherwise. I believe in the 1st amendment and the Bradenburg v. Ohio test. My opinion is that we have a bunch of zealot Zionists who think that threatening to withhold donations to these universities gives them carte blanche to silence a bunch of students who are horrified by what is going on in the Gaza and the West Bank. Sorry, the moral war here has been lost. Young people will not support Israel as their parents and grandparents did. Trying to put restrictions on free speech on college campuses and forcing these students to give their names will not change this. If the demonstration is not illegal, then why should these students have to identify themselves? Being forced to give your name to a University official every time that they ask during a demonstration has a chilling effect on free speech. What is next? A loyalty oath?

Yes they do. The “protests” on campus have clearly shown that. You need a policy to explain where you draw the line with regards to activities that are not part of free speech, but have been tolerated so far: occupations, vandalism and such. And especially at a university, you need a policy to ensure the right of free speech of everyone, and guarantee a free exchange of ideas. That puts a reasonable limit on where and when you can exercise that free speech.

As a kid, I watched college protests on TV in the 60's. They were about civil rights and the Vietnam war. Two legitimate causes. Today it is about protesting for the sake of protesting. Some call it Selma envy, as in the Selma Alabama civil rights march. They wish they had a cause like that, but they don't, so they pretend they do. Group think and cosplay. Kids in their late teens to early twenties that think they know everything because they took some liberal arts classes taught by professors that never held a real job in the real world. The same thing year after year for the last fifty years or more. "Oh, we're in college now. Let's put on our protest uniforms, (head scarves, etc.), beat on drums, and chat dopey stuff."

For many, college is where you grow up a little and learn how you want to integrate into society. If you post hateful rhetoric on someone’s door then you should learn, very quickly, what society does to people who think their opinion is more important than another’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you think it’s ok to express your anger by vandalizing public property or intimidating others into your way of thinking then you’re following the playbook of the very people you claim to hate. Honestly, any institution that spends time devising a list of “offensive words” is asking for this kind of behavior.
